May 31st

While driving home today, about every 20 minutes, Zander would ask, “Mom, are we on the road our house is on now?”

12 hours is just a really long time to be stuck in a car when you’re 3!

May 30th

As we were leaving VBS, we had to say goodbye to everyone, because we would be heading back to Ohio bright and early the next morning.

After we said our goodbyes, we buckled everyone into their carseats and headed down the hill back to the hotel. As we were pulling away from the church, Zander said, “Mom, I like that church. We need to come here every day. Do you know why?” I asked why, and he replied, “Because everyone loves me so much!”

May 29th

Ashley and Lucy were playing with a paper plate this afternoon. Ash threw the plate up in the air and yelled, “Look out, Lucy! It’s an F.O.!!!”

May 28th

This evening, we went to VBS at church. The boys class let out before Ashley’s did, so they were playing on the playground. Gene walked up the hill, and the first thing Jace said to him was, “I do NOT want to go home.” Gene said ok, and walked to the car to get Lucy’s stroller. I walked over to Jace, and he said again, “I do NOT want to go home.” I explained that we had to wait for Ash, so he could play for awhile. He replied, “I am staying right here. You pick me up tomorrow.”

Part One
We turned on the tv in the hotel room before we left for church this morning. Zander said, “Mom! I didn’t know they could have Curious George in a hotel room! How cool is that?”

Part Two
We were at Grandpa and Grandma’s house this afternoon, and Uncle Richard was making peach cobbler on the grill. Zander must have misunderstood him, and he said “I want to play with it when you’re done!” Uncle Richard said, “Play with what?” Zander replied, “With the beach ball, silly!”

May 26th

Found an internet connection, so I can update a little more often than I’d hoped!

We were driving, and had been on the road for awhile, and we crossed into West Virginia. We told Zander that we were out of Ohio and in West Virginia. He sighed heavily and said, “And when are we going to be in Georgia? This is taking forever!”

May 24th

I took the boys to the park this morning before it got too hot out. While we were there, a little girl about 4-5 years old joined us. She kept asking Jace what his name was and how old he was. He’d tell her his name as one long word, and when she asked how old he was, he’d reply, “I don’t know.” She must have asked him his age about 15 times, and each time he just said he didn’t know. Finally, Jace comes over to me and Lucy and asks, “Mom, how many am I? I need this girl to quit asking me!”

May 23rd

Jace was stomping on the kitchen floor this morning. MIL’s room is directly below the kitchen, and she was still in bed. I told Jace to stop stomping because MawMaw was right beneath him. He stopped, looked at the bottom of his shoes, and replied, “No her is not!”

May 22nd

Me: “Jace, does my butt look big in these shorts?”
JJ: “No.”
Me: “Are you sure? It doesn’t look big at all?”
JJ: “No.”
Me: “Are you lying?”
JJ: “Yes.”

May 21st

I took the boys and Lucy with me to Walmart. While we were walking through the craft department, Zander said, “Mom! I need some special scrapbook stickers!” (I’ve been teaching the boys the difference between special stickers and stickers for fun.) Anyway, I asked him why and he told me that he wanted to make his own special scrapbook. I asked him what kind of pictures he would put in his scrapbook and he replied, “Only Peter Pan pictures!” So, I asked him why only Peter Pan pictures. He looked at me like I had two heads and said, “Because I AM Peter Pan, Silly!”

May 20th

As we were getting in the car this afternoon, I was putting Lucy’s car seat in while the boys climbed into their car seats. Zander says, “Mom, do you know what I said to Jace? I said, ‘You better not even think about spitting,’ but he wouldn’t listen to me.” I then asked Zander, “But, Z, are you the Mommy? Is it your job to tell Jace what to do?” Zander thought about it for a second, got a big smile on his face and declared, “No. I am the daddy, and that means I am in charge!”

Part Two
Tonight at church, we had a concert instead of a usual Sunday Evening Service. The boys wanted to stay with us instead of going to their classes. We got to a pew and everyone sat down, but there wasn’t quite enough room for Zander and I to fit. I told Jace, “Tell Daddy to scoot down some. Mommy has a big butt.” Jace reached behind me, rubbed my hind end and said, “No you don’t!”

I love that kid! 🙂

May 19th

This morning, we were driving to pick up a friend, and we passed by a car dealership. Lo and behold, standing outside the dealership was none other than BATMAN. Zander flipped out. He loves Batman and couldn’t believe he saw him just standing on the side of the road! He proceeded to tell me everything he knows about Batman and every reason why he thought Batman would be at a car dealership – (there are no bad guys out right now, he’s getting the Batmobile fixed, he’s looking to buy a new batmobile) – I’m telling you, he came up with every possible explanation he could for why Batman was out his window.

After we picked up our friend, we drove back past the dealership and Batman was gone. I told Zander that he must have gone to fight crime. He replied, “No. He’s in the batmobile and fighting the bad guys!”

May 18th

This evening after dinner, I gave the boys popsicles – you know, the kind that come in the long plastic strips to prevent messes. Well, as Jace was eating his, he took too big of a bite. His entire body shivered and his eyes grew as big as saucers. He turns to Gene and says, “Whoa. I did not know a posicle could do that!”

May 17th

We were watching American Gladiators this evening. This show has become a new favorite of the boys, and it’s fun for Gene and I to “remember when.” Anyway, as we were watching it, Gene asked the boys which was their favorite Gladiator. Jace said that he liked “Wendy Brown” who had been a contestant several weeks ago. Apparently, JJ just liked her name. Zander, however, said that he liked Gold. When we asked him why, he replied, “Because she’s pretty!”

We then asked Jace if he liked Thunder, one of the new gladiators for that season. Jace said, “No, he has too much hair.”

After that, we asked Z which of the boy gladiators was his favorite. He told us, “None of them. I only like Gold. I could look at her all day.”

May 16th

This afternoon, Jace and I ran to Giant Eagle to get a few items. When we pulled into the parking lot, Jace told me that the sign said “Giant Eagle” and that we *always* shopped at Giant Eagle.

I told him that when we move to Georgia, we’ll be shopping somewhere else, and I knew that one of the stores was called “Piggly Wiggly.”

He got all excited and exclaimed, “Yeah! And they have pigs!”

I heard the guy walking in behind us chuckle. Jace continued on to tell me how neat it would be to shop at a store that has pigs walking down the aisles.

May 15th

This morning, I made a blanket for Jace. I had found some adorable turtle fabric at JoAnn’s and just had to snatch it up. (I’ve always referred to JJ as my little turtle.)

Anyway, as I’m putting the blanket together, Jace came over and said, “Mommy, I love you so much. This is the most beautifulest blankie ever. Can I give my ducky blankie to Lucy now, since you made me this new blankie? I think it would be very nice of me to do that.”

May 14th

I know that I laughed at least a hundred times today, but I’m not feeling well and my brain has gone totally blank. I just can’t remember a thing.

However, I will tell you that Zander has taken excellent care of me, and all of the kids have helped out so much – well, all but Jace. He’s sick, too, so I’ve been trying to comfort him and keep myself sane at the same time.

I’m hoping tomorrow I can remember something from today and edit in in here. For now, I’m heading to bed for as long as the kids will let me sleep.

Edited to add: Gene told me that yesterday afternoon, Zander came bouncing into the living room happily declaring, “I feel good and I can dance on my tippy-toes to show you how good I feel!” He then proceeded to dance around the living room as happy as could be. Wish I’d been alert enough to see it!

May 13th

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

This afternoon we went over to Pa-Pa Joe & Grandma Ida’s house for dinner. After dinner, we allowed the boys to each have an ice cream cone. JJ wanted chocolate (he is his Momma’s boy, after all), and Zander wanted vanilla.

As we watched the boys enjoy their ice cream, I turned to Gene and commented that Jace looked like he was enjoying his a bit too much and that he was going to turn into a piece of chocolate.

Zander overheard and replied, “And I am going to have a banilla face for ever and ever!”

Zander came running into the kitchen carrying a Peter Pan shapes/colors book that he had found out in the garage.

Z: “Mom! Do you like this Peter Pan book?”
Me: “I sure do! That was one of my favorite books when I was your age.”
Z: “When you were three?”
Me: Yep! When I was 3 and 4.”
Z: “Wow! How can you be 3 and 4? I’m only 3!”

May 11th

Me: “Jace. Tell me something funny.”
Jace: “Ok. Knock Knock.”
Me: “Who’s there?”
Jace: “Captain Hook and Zander and Ashley and Maw-Maw and Mia.”
Me: “Captain Hook and Zander and Ashley and Maw-Maw and Mia who?”
Jace: “They were all throwing cheese with their hands and Captain Hook was doing it with himself but Peter Pan was there and he was not doing it, so we all had to do it with our hands. That’s what we is supposed to do!”

Typed exactly as he said to me tonight. I could only dream of making this stuff up!
