Archives for October 2008

October 31st

Tonight, Zander was trying everything to get out of bed. Here’s our conversation:

Z: Mom? What does “vote” mean?
Me: It means we get to say who we want to be our leaders.
Z: What’s a leader?
Me: Someone who makes up the rules and helps run things.
Z: You get to pick leaders?
Me: Yep. Sometimes who we want to win does, and sometimes they don’t.
Z: Are you my leader?
Me: Well, kind of. Parents have lots of jobs.
Z: But if you’re our leader, why didn’t we get to pick if we wanted you or someone else?

(Can you tell he was mad at me for making him go to bed?)

Happy Halloween!!!

I wonder if Lori is having her baby. I’m convinced she’s getting the Halloween baby I wanted! LOL! Lori, I’m thinking of you. I hope that you ARE having that sweet baby and that all is going well. Can’t wait to hear the news. And if you’re not having the baby yet, I really hope it’s soon for you, honey. I did read your blog, but I’m hoping something has happened since you posted that.

I have no pictures up yet, as this was the LEAST exciting Halloween around here EVER. I will have some tomorrow, though. I made Lu a cute little tutu and want to get the boys in their Spiderman costumes.

I hope ya’all had a fabulous Halloween. I’m looking forward to next year when I’m not stuck in the house!

I won the BEST gift ever! :)

Not that my hips, thighs, or butt NEEDED to win this, but I plan to enjoy it!

Over on MomDot, I won the contest hosted by the Cookie Boutique. (I blogged about it previously here.) I couldn’t believe it when I won – and then REALLY couldn’t believe it when they tried to give them away to someone else later! LOL! No worries, though, there was a huge mix up, and I was still crowned the winner of the cookies.

They came in the mail today. I hadn’t told the kids what was coming, so they didn’t have a clue.

When I got the box, I immediately had to open it. Inside, I found a gorgeous gift box, beautifully packaged.
I opened it up, and there was a sweet little card from Darlene (the Cookie Boutique Owner), and more beautiful packaging.
I opened up the tissue paper, and could instantly smell all of the cookies. I’m pretty sure it’s what heaven is going to smell like.
We got 6 different designs: A mummy, a tombstone, a witches hat, candy corn, Frankenstein, and a pumpkin. They are SO stinking adorable, that you almost don’t want to eat them. Almost.
And we didn’t get just ONE of each design, we got TWO!
By this point, the kids were dying. Cookies IN THE MAIL?! They thought that was just the coolest thing ever. I let them each have their pick. Lucy grabbed the “Mommy,” Zander went straight for Frankenstein, Jace wanted the pumpkin, Ash ate the candy corn, and I had the witches hat. (And then I had the tombstone later. LOL!) And for the record, the cookies tasted AMAZING. Seriously. It’s a good thing I’m broke, because I could eat my weight in these cookies… and that’s a LOT of cookies! 😉

Here are the kids enjoying their cookies: (And, yes. They are still in their pajamas at 2pm. We’ve been stuck at home since I got home from the hospital with Parker, and none of us ever get motivated enough to get dressed – unless we’re going to have company which doesn’t happen very often.) Anyway, ignore the jammies and just look at their very happy little faces:

A HUGE thank you to and Darlene at the Cookie Boutique. I’ve hidden the other 6 cookies and am keeping them all for myself.

October 30th

Today, we received some cookies in the mail through a contest that I won. (If you have no idea what I’m talking about, read this.)

When I opened the box and the kids saw what was inside, the kids all got SO excited. Jace said, “WOW! Cookies in the mail? Who one earth sends THOSE?!”

To which Zander replied, “It must be the Halloween Pumkin Man.”

When I asked him who that was, he said, “You know, the Halloween Pumpkin Man. He takes care of the Halloween stuff. Santa does Christmas, The Easter Bunny does Easter, but the Pumpkin Man sends you stuff on Halloween!”

October 29th

I’ve been stressing out because I need to get a Halloween tutu made for Lucy for a picture this year. (We won’t be going trick or treating, but I still have a picture I want to get.)

As I was talking about the tutu I want to make to Gene, Jace said, “Tutus are puppies.”

Ummm…. WHAT? I asked him what on earth he was talking about and he said, “Tutus are puppies. Like on our Veggie Tales movie.”

On Veggies Tales “Wizard of Ha’s” Junior has a pet pig whose name is Tutu. Apparently, Jace thinks this pig acts more like a puppy than a pig.

The mind of a child….

Come vote for us!!

***This is a sticky post. Please scroll down for newer posts!***

We are in desperate need of a double stroller, but we can’t afford to purchase a new one. So, I’m going to try like crazy to WIN one!!!

Pho for Five is having a photo contest and they are giving away a Chicco Trevi Twin Stroller!!

Being that it’s a photo contest, I just had to enter. Click on this link, and leave a comment to vote for “Captain Hook.”

I happen to think he’s pretty darn cute!

You must leave a valid email address, and you can only vote once.

PLEASE help us win this stroller! We’d so appreciate it!!

Wordless Wednesday: Halloween Revisited!

Two of my very favorite Halloweens:

2005 – Super Family:

2006 – Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Wendy, and Tink:

Finally getting back to normal…

We said goodbye to Natalie this morning. I sure am gonna miss her. It was nice to have a grown up to talk to. Ya know, one that actually listens… not like your husband. 😉 I’m sure her family is glad to have her back. Nat, thanks for such a great visit. I hope my kids didn’t stress you out too much.

After she left, we dove right back into homeschooling. After a 3 week break, this was NOT an easy thing to do. Zander had a really rough time with it. It took him over 2 hours just to write down his spelling words. (He has 5 3-letter words that he has to write 5 times each.) He cried and screamed and had no desire to do it. But, he finally got it done. I’m hoping it doesn’t take long to get him back into the swing of things. Ash did great. No problems from her at all. She just dove right back in like we’d never even stopped. LOVE how easy she is.

Since I haven’t blogged this weekend, I’ve got to catch up. Parker had his first tub bath on Saturday since his cord FINALLY fell off and healed up. He wasn’t too sure about it, but he survived. Here are some pictures:

He’s such a little peanut. He always has his eyebrows furrowed like that, too. It’s hysterical.

Other than that, we’re just trying to get back into the “norm” around here. I’m back to work (finally!!), kids are back to school, and my house is going to be back to being a mess. 😉

Hope ya’all have had a great weekend and that your week is starting off on the right foot!

October 28th

We started back homeschooling today. What a hard thing to do after 3 weeks off!

Zander was NOT happy about getting back to work. It took him almost two hours just to write his spelling words 5 times. (Note: he has 5 words, each of which is 3 letters long!)

As he’s sitting at the table, I hear him grumble, “I thought she would forget about spelling since Parker is here.”

So much for that, little man.

October 27th

Today’s funny is not something my kids said, but something I said that made EVERYONE in the house crack up…. although, Lucy walking around the house saying “Hello, boys” over and over was also very cute.

Ok, I know you’re DYING to know what I said, so here goes…

Lucy found a Spiderman diaper cover. It’s very cute and looks just like Spiderman’s mask. She was trying to put it on her head, but she kept trying to stick her head through the holes for the legs. So, I told her, “Lucy! Put your head in the butt hole!”

Sorry so quiet!

I have a very dear friend in town. She drove all the way from Missouri to see me. (Well, to see me and Parker! LOL!) I’m spending my time with her until she leaves Tuesday morning.

I’ll be back soon. Hope everyone else is well!

October 26th

The boys were in trouble at bedtime – again – tonight. Jace started crying and he said, “I think I’m going to turn sick!”

(He was fine, by the way – just trying to keep from getting into trouble!)

What’s the deal with the migraines?!

Seriously? I get one EVERY DAY and it hurts like heck. I still have some prescription motrin that they gave me after I was discharged, but they don’t help a bit.

Maybe it’s stress? My boys are totally stressing me out right now… To the point where I’m ready to rip my hair out.

Anyone have any herbal or natural cures for migraines? I need to do something!!

October 25th

My boys always gripe about what we’re having for dinner. So, every night before we sit down at the table, I hear, “What are we having?” which is usually followed by, “I don’t like that.”

Tonight, Zander asked what we were having, and I told him it was pork chops, cheesy potatoes, and corn.

He asked if they were the “circle potatoes with orange cheese cut up in slices”? to which I told him yes. (Those are augratin potatoes, in case you couldn’t get that!)

He ate EVERY BITE of his dinner and then said, “Wow, Mom. You need to make this every night. It’s my fwavrite!” (Spelled as he says it.)

I had to document this because I never, ever hear it!

Parker’s first little milestone…

His little cord fell off tonight. I went to change his diaper, and it had fallen off sometime between changings.

Sniff, sniff. He’s already growing up. 🙁

The good news is, now he can get a real bath!

Look at his sweet little belly now:

October 24th

We were driving to an appointment we had this morning, and Zander asked me how many days until Halloween. I told him that there were 8 more days.

A few seconds later, Jace asked me, “Mom? How many days until we go to Heaven?”

How does one answer that question?!

Parker and I went back to the doctor…

And we both get passing marks. Thank heavens.

Parker’s weight is up. He’s at 5 pounds, 9 ounces. Still such a peanut. But, it’s up over his birth weight, so doc was quite happy about that.

AND, my blood pressure was in the NORMAL range!!! WOOOHOOO!!! It was 134/80. The best it’s been in quite a while. Doc wants to keep me on the meds until my 6 week check up, then she’ll take me off and check again in another week or two. As long as it stays down, I can stay off the meds. Won’t that be a blessing?

I BEGGED her to let me go back to church starting next week, but she said no. I almost burst into tears right there. She will not let Parker out of the house until he’s 30 days old. I warned her that on the 31st day, I won’t be home at all. I just want out and I want to get back into church. I miss it SO much and I hate being away from there.

I am glad, however, that we seem to be on the upswing. I only wish I could get these migraines to go away…. not that the kids help those any.

I want today to just be OVER.

It has been a day around here. And not a good one, if you get my drift.

Things started out just wonderfully this morning. Apparently, the boys had woken up EXTREMELY early and decided to see just how much trouble they could cause. I’m guessing that they decided to jump on Jace’s bed, because they somehow split the mattress. (It’s a plastic-covered toddler mattress.) Once they got it split, they decided to see just how much of the plastic cover they could pull off. They got quite a bit.

THEN, because that just wasn’t enough, they decided to empty out their art boxes and fill them with water. They took them into their room and soaked EVERYTHING. Because they had pulled most of the plastic cover off of Jace’s mattress, the inside soaked up the water like a sponge. It’s ruined, and we can’t afford to buy a new one, since Gene’s paycheck was $200 this week, and we HAD to put it toward a car payment that’s already late. SO glad he had to take time off while Parker and I were in the hospital.

Jace has been awful all day. He won’t obey, he pushes my buttons just to see how angry he can make me, and I am literally at my wits end. I know my mother would snicker and say that it’s just payback, but I really don’t know what to do with this child. Nothing works with him.

I put them both to bed immediately after dinner. I don’t know what else to do. They’re both in there, crying their eyes out, because Lucy is watching Krypto and they don’t get to. I’m hoping that maybe it will make them straighten up, but it doesn’t seem to be going that way.

Edited to add: 10 minutes later, I went into their room only to discover that Jace had sneaked into the bathroom and taken the lotion out of the windowsill. They had lotion EVERYWHERE. GRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and here’s the mattress:

Nice, huh?! SIGH

I just want to sit down and cry. I’m sorry to vent on here, but it’s my blog, and I’m entitled to a whiny post now and then. I just really don’t know how we’re going to get through this week. I am praying for sanity and guidance from God above, because I just can’t do this.

October 22nd

Jace has been in trouble all day today. This afternoon, Parker and Lucy were sleeping, and Jace went running through the house, clomping the whole way.

I staid in my sternest Mommy whisper, “Jace Matthew! Stop running through this house like an elephant!”

To which he replied, “Elephants don’t run!”
