Nothing to Say Today…

Sorry. I’ve got nothin’! In fact, I’m not even here right now. I’m off enjoying a romantic weekend with hubby.

My contest post will go live tomorrow morning, and then things will be back to normal around here on Monday.

Have a fantastic weekend, and thank you so much for stopping by!

Banquet Family Meals (Review)

As a mom of 5, figuring out what to make for dinner has always been a challenge. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a chef – by any means. That means that when I head to the grocery store, I need items that are easy to fix and everyone loves them. Sounds easy enough, right? HA. Anyone who has kids knows how difficult this can be!

Luckily, I’ve got a secret: Banquet Frozen Foods. They offer tons of options – from chicken nuggets to turkey pot pie, and Salisbury steak to their Crock-Pot® Classics. My kids love their food, my husband loves their food, and I can fool anyone into thinking that I’m a fantastic cook!

Here’s some information about Banquet that I got from their website:

For 50 years, Banquet has been making the familiar foods that families love. From Salisbury steak to crispy fried chicken and turkey pot pies to chicken breast tenders, you can always count on Banquet to provide consistently good taste at a great value.

Banquet products include frozen dinners, pot pies, fried chicken, chicken nuggets, tenders and patties, Banquet wings, Homestyle Bakes, and Crock-Pot® Classics.

The Banquet brand began in 1953 with the introduction of frozen meat pies. Banquet frozen dinners first hit store shelves in 1955. The ’70s brought several different fried chicken offerings. Most recently, Banquet launched Homestyle Bakes and Dessert Bakes, and the brand revolutionized convenient, family-style cooking with the introduction of Banquet Crock-Pot Classics in 2004.

Now the brand that families love wants to give back to their loyal customers by giving away more than 16,000 cash prizes totaling $1 million in the Banquet Instant Win Game! Look for specially marked Banquet single-serve dinner meals in your grocer’s freezer during the months of February, March, and April to see if you are a winner!

My Review of Banquet Frozen Foods
As I stated above, I’ve been a fan of Banquet foods for as long as I can remember. My absolute favorite item to buy – and eat! – is their Family Size Salisbury steak. No, I don’t eat the whole box. And I have to buy 3 boxes at a time to feed my whole family. But, I absolutely love them. And it’s one meal that I’m certain everyone at the table will eat. No complaints about what dinner that night, just “mmmmms” and lots of happy kids.

My kids love the Banquet Boneless Chicken Breast Nuggets. I love that they’re made with real chicken breast. And they don’t cost an arm and a leg to buy.

I’m not a wife who gets up early and packs her husband’s lunch. Probably because my husband has worked nights since we got married. But, I do make sure that our freezer is always stocked with Banquet meals. They’re affordable, and easy for him to fix while he’s at work.

I love that Banquet provides good food at a great price. In today’s world, we’re all about quick, easy, convenient, and cost-effective, but we don’t want to give up on taste. Banquet comes to the rescue with their tasty food at a price anyone can afford.

Don’t forget – in February, March, and April, Banquet is giving back to their customers by giving away a million dollars in cash prizes is their Thanks A Million Instant Win Game! Grab a box, fix a great meal for your family, and you may just win some cash!

Get Gloved (Review)

Have you ever wished your gloves could do more than just keep your hands warm? What if your gloves could act as a defense mechanism and help guard your family against germs? Fashionably designed to comfortably fit men, women and children. Silky to the touch, Get Glovd provides an effective defense.

Here are some facts about gloves made by Get Glovd, as found on their website:

  • 100% natural, sustainable fabric (100% mechanically processed bamboo yarn)
  • Naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial
  • Inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi that cause odor
  • Hypoallergenic for even the most sensitive skin
  • Keep you cooler in summer and warmer in winter
  • Breathable, provides excellent comfort through moisture wicking
  • UV protection
  • Maintains these properties even through multiple washings.

My Review of  Get Glovd
I recently received a pair of women’s gloves from Get Glovd to try out. When I received the package, the first thing I noticed was the packaging. I really like that it comes in a reusable envelope. Then, I pulled out the gloves. They were so soft! Very thin, and so silky soft. Then I read the benefits of the gloves and how they can help prevent germs from spreading.

We’ve been having unusually cold weather for our area lately, so I put on the gloves and headed to the grocery store. I like the idea of the gloves stopping germs in their tracks. Who knows how many germs you pick up pushing the cart, picking up items, and so on. I had no trouble grabbing any items from the shelves, and when it came time to pay, I left the gloves on. I easily gave the cashier the money, and had no problems whatsoever with the money sticking to the gloves or being difficult to handle. (Have you ever tried counting money with regular gloves on? It’s not easy!)

Overall, I am quite impressed with the gloves and would recommend them to anyone who doesn’t like germs, but gets tired of using hand sanitizer all the time, or anyone who frequently rides the subway, airplanes, or any kind of public transportation. And these would be great for kids or adults.

The only thing I wish is that more color options were available. I’m a very matchy-matchy kind of person, and I like my gloves to match my coat (or my outfit) – because these only come in black with a green strip (or solid black for kids), it’s kind of boring. I’d love to see them expand their color choices and options.

If you want to know more about Get Glovd, you can check out their website. Gloves are $19.99 for adults and $14.99 for kids. Plus, they’re having a special right now where if you buy 2 pairs, they ship free. (Continental US Only.)

You can also become a fan of Get Glovd on Facebook, and follow them on twitter.

Disclaimer: I received a free pair of Get Glovd gloves to get my honest and candid review. The free products did not influence my opinion in any way, and I was not compensated in any way for this post. Other users may have different results or opinions when using this product. The thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are my own, unless otherwise quoted.

Win & Give from Betty Crocker ("Win & Give Away") CLOSED

Do you have a child who would give up the shoes on her feet to give to someone who didn’t own a pair of shoes? I am blessed enough to have a daughter like that. Ashley would do anything she could to help anyone out – no matter what it meant she would lose. Her heart is pure gold, and I am so thankful for her.

Our kids are our future. We want kids who are excited to win, but also understand the importance of giving to others. Now, with the help of Betty Crocker Fruit Flavored Snacks, kids can do both – win and give.

With specially marked boxes of kid favorites – including Fruit Roll-Ups, Gushers, Fruit by the Foot, and Stickerz & Shapes – your child could win one laptop to keep and Betty Crocker Fruit Flavored Snacks will donate another to a child in Africa.

Each day from now through May 30, 2010, one laptop prize will be awarded to a U.S. winner. For every laptop won, one laptop will be donated to an African child through One Laptop per Child, an organization that creates educational opportunities for the world’s poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power connected laptop with content and software designed for collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning.

Take a moment and look at the work the One Laptop Per Child  program is doing in Africa:

Finally! New Opening Credits for GH

We’ve been watching the same opening credits sequence on GH since 2004. Sure, they added in some new characters here and there, but many of the characters shown in those credits have been killed off, left the show, or were replaced with other actors/actresses. They have desperately needed to update this for quite some time.

Well, to kick off their 12,000th show, GH is unveiling brand new opening credits today. Set your DVR, Tivo, or VCR, because you do not want to miss today’s episode. (And, just in case you forget to set your DVR, you can catch today’s episode at 10pm EST on SoapNet. – That’s what I’ll be doing!)

Here are the new opening credits:

I think it’s great! Epiphany finally gets the credit she deserves. So happy to see her on there. It’s also nice to see the real names of the people portraying them.

If you haven’t been watching GH, now’s the time to start. This week, Sonny’s trial for murder begins. One son is tormented when his father takes the fall for him, while the other is called to stand to testify against his father. What will these two sons do? It’s brother against brother this week on General Hospital.

For more GH news and fun, the GH Mom Ambassadors are tweeting with the hashtag ghmoms. I hope you’ll join in!

Disclosure: I am a participant in a Mom Central campaign for ABC Daytime and will receive a tote bag or other General Hospital branded items to facilitate my review.

Sing Along with Barbie DVD (Review)

Around my house, Barbie is a well known, much-loved character. We have tons of Barbie dolls, Barbie clothes, Barbie cars, and almost every single Barbie movie that has been released. (We’re missing 4 in our collection, and Lucy reminds me every time she watches any other Barbie movie that we need to get those 4 movies.)

On January 5, 2010, a brand new Barbie DVD was introduced called Sing Along with Barbie. Thanks to Mom Central, I had the opportunity to receive a copy of the DVD, and boy, did that make Lucy’s day!

Before I get to my review, here’s a little about the DVD:

Sing, dance and dream with Barbie™ and friends in her very first collection of sing-along songs from Barbie™ Entertainment. Easy-to-follow, on-screen lyrics let you perform your favorite Barbie™ songs like never before. Relive the adventure and magic from classic Barbie™ movie moments through twelve memorable melodies.

My Review (with help from Lucy) of Sing Along with Barbie
When I was a little girl, I loved playing with Barbie. I’d spend hours in my room, fixing her hair, finding the perfect outfit, and sending her on a date with Ken. Now, I’ve got my own little girl who loves Barbie as much as I did all those years ago. And Barbie sure has come a long way! Lucy loves the Barbie movies, and her favorite part is the singing. I love to put the DVDs in, just because watching her is even more fun than the movie itself! She will dance and sing along at the top of her lungs. And if she doesn’t know the words? That’s ok. She just makes them up. To her, it doesn’t matter what words she’s singing, just as long as she’s singing.

So, when Mom Central offered me the chance to review the newest Barbie DVD, how could I say no?

When the packaged arrived, Lucy’s face lit up. We had to pop it into the DVD player immediately. The first time through, Lucy sat and didn’t move. There was an introduction to each song, and then the words came on the screen so that you could sing along. Since Lucy’s only 3, the words didn’t help her much, but I do like the fact that it will help encourage reading and getting the words right as she gets older.

As soon as all 12 songs had played through, Lucy turned to me and said, “Ok, Mama. Play it again.” So, I played it again. This time, she jumped up, dancing and singing along with every one of the songs – even the ones from the movies that we don’t have! We have officially watched this DVD about 50 times, and Lucy never gets tired of it. She never stops singing along, and she never stops dancing.

Watch as Lucy sings along with a clip from the DVD:

She has had a ball with this movie!

The only thing that Lucy would have liked more is a longer sing along movie, with more songs. The DVD is only 37 minutes long, and it really seems to go by in a flash. I guess they’ll just have to come out with a Sing Along with Barbie 2. 🙂

You can purchase the Sing Along with Barbie DVD at local retailers or online from,, and At a list price of only $14.98, (and cheaper most places you look – Target has it for just $9.99!), it’s a very reasonable price to pay and make the little girl in your life smile. Easter is quickly coming up, and this would make the perfect Easter basket stuffer – and a great way to avoid all that candy!

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Mattel. In addition, I received a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Diaper Cakewalk (Gender-Neutral Giveaway – CLOSED)

Almost 2 years ago to the day this post goes live, I found out I was pregnant with Parker. (Can you believe it’s been that long already?) One of the best new baby gifts I ever received was a diaper cake, and I’m sure it’s no surprise why!

One of the things I love most about diaper cakes is that they can be stuffed with lots of extra goodies and baby essentials – baby wash, baby lotion, baby powder, baby toys, and so much more. All things that every new mom needs to stock up on.

When Leah of Diaper Cakewalk contacted me and asked if I would like to do a review or giveaway, I thought it would be a fun way to reminisce about the day we found out we were about to become a family of seven. Since I have no need for a diaper cake here now, I thought you all could benefit from a giveaway for a fantastic diaper cake for your own little one!

Here’s some information about Diaper Cakewalk:

When someone special welcomes a new member of the family you want to give a really unique (and absolutely practical) new baby gift to express your congratulations. Flowers are pretty but they only last a little while and then they end up in the trash! A gift basket is practical, but so…ordinary.

The big question is, “What do the parents of a new baby need more than anything else?” Unless you can give the gift of SLEEP, the answer is DIAPERS!!

It’s easy to see why our diaper cakes are such a smart alternative to gift baskets or flowers. Constructed with 100% usable, premium Pampers Swaddlers, these clever cakes are decorated with equally practical, name-brand baby care supplies (from companies like Johnson & Johnson, Gerber, Burt’s Bees, & Playtex) that parents can’t have enough of when they have a new baby in the house. The diaper cake is designed to be easily dismantled so that sleep-deprived mom and dad can quickly convert it into a mountain of much-needed diapers and supplies.

Our baby diaper cakes are created with the new baby in mind, so you can expect only the most useful, high quality, name-brand baby care items to be used in your gift – but our diaper cakes are also created with YOU, the gift-giver in mind. You can expect your diaper cake to arrive looking beautiful right out of the box. Whether the gift is delivered directly to the new parents, or shipped to you to be given as a baby shower gift or delivered personally, rest assured that our professionally created and carefully shipped new baby gifts have proven themselves time and time again to be only the best.

For this giveaway, Diaper Cakewalk is offering up their 4 tier Under the Sea diaper cake that is completely gender neutral, and perfect for any new baby or baby-to-be to one very lucky 5 Vinez Monkeys reader! (Pictured beside the description below.)

Some information about the diaper cake the winner will receive:

Life is “the bubbles” with our brand new Under the Sea Diaper Cake!  A beautiful baby shower gift to compliment an Under the Sea shower theme,

and an unforgettable centerpiece as well.  The Under the Sea Diaper Cake includes:

  • Squid, fishy, and sea turtle terry cloth bath toys

  • Johnson’s baby lotion
  • Johnson’s baby wash
  • Johnson’s baby shampoo
  • Johnson’s baby powder
  • Desitin diaper rash cream
  • 70-75 premium Pampers Swaddlers, size 1-2 (up to 15lbs.)

Oh My Gosh! They Picked Me!

GH AmbassadorMy readers are about to find out exactly how crazy I am. 🙂

Last week, I found out that I was picked to be a part of Mom Central‘s General Hospital Ambassadors program.

Those who know me in real life know how much I love General Hospital. In fact, Zander’s name came from the show. Really. Here’s how it happened: I started watching the show when I worked in a daycare center in the Chicago Suburbs. It was what we watched during our lunch break. I was immediately hooked, and even taped the show every day – just in case something happened and my lunch hour was switched at work. Years later, I met and married hubby. By then, I was taping every show and watching it at night after Ashley was in bed. He knew of my fetish with GH and would even watch it with me most of the time – still does. When I got pregnant with Zander, we knew that it was going to be a boy, and we knew that we absolutely could not agree on a name. One evening, we were sitting and watching GH, and it happened to be a day where “Zander Smith” happened to be shown quite a bit. (Side note: Did you catch his guest appearance a few weeks ago!) Anyway, I remember hubby saying, “You know, I like the name Zander.” And from that moment on, it was settled. (I can hear my mother groaning.)

Jace’s name also came from GH, but hubby won’t admit it. Jason is one of our favorite characters on the show. (I say “our” because my hubby thinks he’s pretty darn cool, too. Just don’t tell anyone I told you that.) But, the name Jason is just too common when paired with “Zander.” So, I made a play on Jason’s name, and came up with Jace. And, when we were pregnant with Parker, Spencer was actually a top name in the running.

I really am the ultimate dork. I know. I just love this show!

So, to be asked to be a part of the General Hospital Ambassadors program is like the ultimate honor. I am so excited!

Does this mean my blog will now turn into a GH only blog? Of course not. But, I may be posting updates about the show here and there over the next few weeks. I’ll also be tweeting about things, so if you’re interested in all things GH, be sure to follow me on twitter.

Also, if you love General Hospital as much as I do, you may be interested in hearing about a fantastic sweepstakes that’s being run by Mom Central where one lucky winner will be randomly selected to receive a trip to LA to visit the set of General Hospital and have a walk-on role. The sweepstakes is open until February 28th, so hurry over and enter. Here’s a link to the sign-up survey for the sweepstakes: GH Sweepstakes by Mom Central

Now, I want to hear from you. Do you watch GH? What’s your favorite story line right now? Got a favorite character? Anyone you really can’t stand? Come on, talk to me!

Disclosure: I am a participant in a Mom Central campaign for ABC Daytime and will receive a tote bag or other General Hospital branded items to facilitate my review.

I also feel the need to say this, as I’m certain I will have some upset by the fact that I watch a Soap Opera: I will not watch a show that I would not be ok with my children walking in on it. That goes for any kind of show – daytime or primetime. I watch GH at night either on Soap Net or the day’s DVRed episode. Questionable or risque scenes are skipped over – whether I’m alone or hubby is with me. But, honestly, most of the time, GH is a whole lot cleaner than many of the primetime shows that I hear children talking about. This is my two cents, and you are welcome to disagree. Just note that any rude or distasteful comments will be deleted.

A Day at the Circus (Review)

Part of me wondered if we were ever even going to make it to the circus. All day long, the threat of snow coming into the area caused the Southern natives to panic. Grocery stores were wiped clean of their bread and milk supply. Kids were let out of school, and not even a flake had fallen.

Because I know how people in the South are, I called the Philips Arena to see what the likelihood that the show would be canceled. After all, I’ve lived in Chicago and Ohio. I’m not afraid of a little snow, and nothing was going to keep me from taking my kids to the circus!

I talked to a very frazzled operator. (I am certain the poor dear had been fielding phone calls like mine all morning.) She told me that the show would most likely go on, but to keep calling to see if that was still true later in the day. Great. I’m about to drive 2+ hours. In the snow. In the South. And you want me to keep calling to see if it’s been canceled?

Luckily, my FFA Coordinator from Mom Central, Elizabeth, was wonderful. She promised to call me immediately if they did cancel the show. So, we set off. It was already snowing at this point, but the roads weren’t too bad until we got closer to Atlanta. It took us almost 3 hours to get down where we were going, but we got there in plenty of time for the pre-show.

We found our seats, and then walked right out into the center of the action. The kids were just in awe of everything going on. There were clowns, acrobats, and members of the circus all around, just waiting to say hello! We walked from attraction to attraction, the kids more excited to watch than to actually participate. Finally, one clown was able to convince Jace to come up on stage. He got up there and spun a plate like a pro. He was so proud of himself. Lucy met one of the girls in the circus, and was star struck. She put a tattoo on Lucy’s hand, and Lucy beamed, showing her new tattoo off in every single picture from that point on.

About 20 minutes before the show was to start, things started getting really crowded on the circus floor. We headed back to our seats, took a potty break, and then sent Daddy and Ashley off to get some snacks. When the lights went down, we were all ready and as excited as could be.

The show was non-stop action from beginning to end. Even the intermission was filled with fun from some of the clowns. The kids were all mesmerized by everything going on around them – and above them! The high-wire act was Ashley’s favorite. I don’t think she breathed the entire time they were up there. Zander loved that they had Zebras in the show. Made his entire night to watch them dance and run around right in front of him. Lucy loved the guy and the girl that walked on the ceiling. (It was really cool! How do they do that?!) She has now decided that she wants to learn how to walk on the ceiling, too. Parker loved the animals – the dogs, the elephants, the horses, the tigers…. he’d clap and cheer the entire time there was any kind of animal within his line of vision. And Jace, well, he has changed his mind. Prior to the show, he was convinced that he wanted to go to clown school. And while he loved the clowns, and their antics, he has now decided that he wants to be a tiger tamer. He sat on the edge of his seat when the tigers were out, and now he wants to grow up and do that. (Great. I’m not going to have to worry about him at all!)

Hubby and I both enjoyed the show as well. It was geared toward little kids, I have to admit that, but there were several parts when I gasped. And I caught hubby’s eye a few times and we both mouthed, “How do that do that?” But even more than that, watching our kids and seeing their faces light up, and the smiles that it all brought – it made for a night of good, clean, family fun that none of us will soon forget. I am so grateful to Mom Central for the tickets, and to Feld Entertainment for putting on such a fantastic show!

Even though our trip home was a real nightmare, I wouldn’t have traded that night in for the world. I had such a ball, and my kids are still talking about it. Lucy wakes up every morning and asks me if we can go back to the circus again. It made a real impression on her, and I love that she loved it so much.

Disclaimer: Mom Central gave my family tickets to see the show as a thanks for promoting the show on my blog, facebook, twitter, and offline as a Feld Family Activator.

Just wanted to give you all a heads up.

We went to the circus last night, which was fabulous, but on the way home, the wet roads had turned to ice. We saw dozens of accidents, cars in ditches, and even watched as the SUV beside was flipped over onto it’s roof. Scary stuff.

We got a hotel down here last night, but the roads are still bad today. Hubby is ready to get on the road, but I’m not so sure.

Just pray for us as we drive home. I’d like to have us all arrive safely and in one piece.

I’ll update again sometime.

Update: We made it home safely. It took us almost 3 and a half hours, but we’re home. And I’m exhausted, so my review of the circus will go up on Monday! Be sure to read it then.
