Blast Off to Rocket Town! {Review}

Rocket TownParker is all about anything that has to do with transportation: cars, trucks, boats, planes, tractors, trains… it doesn’t matter what it is. If it goes, he’s in love.

So, when I was given the chance to review a new book by Bob Logan called “Rocket Town,” I jumped at the chance.

The book is amazing. It’s a short, easy to read board book. The illustrations, however, are absolutely incredible! The colors and the excitement on each page are captivating and just a whole lot of fun to look at. I glanced through it myself first, and then I read through it with Parker. We read it once, then again, then another time. Each time, he got more and more excited. His favorite part of the book is the countdown…. 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1….. BLASTOFF! He’ll shout it just as loud as he can, every single time! (I’ve learned to hide the book during the baby’s nap time!)

The rockets in Rocket Town aren’t your normal, every day rockets. These rockets are fun and unique, each one special in it’s own way. My favorite is the ice cream truck rocket. Parker loves the school bus rocket and the yellow truck rocket. (The yellow truck rocket is the one that gets to blastoff!)

Parker just loves this book, and I love that he wants to sit and look at the pictures, or read the book with me. Books like Rocket Town are a great way to get young kids excited about reading and instill a love for reading in their little hearts and minds.

The author and illustrator, Bob Logan, has worked as a story artist on feature animations such as Madagascar and Open Season, as well as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. His illustrations don’t disappoint! You’ll want to get your hands on a copy of the book just because of the illustrations. And at just $7.99, it is definitely worth every penny!

Earthquake Drill

earthquake drillToday at Zander’s school, they had an earthquake drill. When Zander got home, he was telling me all about this earthquake drill and what happened. Here’s exactly what he said to me:

“They sounded off the alarm, and we all got in our proper places. But then they didn’t shake the school. What is the point of having an earthquake drill if they’re not going to shake the school?!”

When I asked him why he thought they would shake the school for a drill, He replied, “Well, some of the kids said that the school has a big machine that makes it shake just for earthquake drills.”

It took me a good 10 minutes to stop giggling after that conversation!

Mega Bloks Dora Playset: Dora’s Bathtime {Review}

Dora Bathtime PlaysetMy kids are big fans of Mega Bloks, and my daughter Lucy absolutely loves Dora. So, when Mega Bloks created their Dora Playsets, and Team Mom gave me (andLucy!) the opportunity to review one, I jumped at the chance!

We received the Dora’s Bathtime Set. Lucy and I had so much fun putting it together. Her favorite part was adding the stickers on the blocks. The one bummer, though, was that Boots was just a sticker. Since Boots is our favorite friend of Dora’s, it was disappointing that he wasn’t an actual figurine. And I really didn’t get why the brush was a sticker on a block too. Even if Dora doesn’t have real hair, it still would have been nice to have a brush and not a brush sticker on a block.  Lucy seemed to be ok with it, though, and she still plays with the set for hours and hours. She loves that you can change Dora’s skirt and hang up the one that she’s not using on a tiny little hanger. She also loved the little “rubber ducky” that came with it so that Dora can have a toy to play with in the bathtub.

Dora PlaysetOne feature that I really love is that you can play with this set alone, or use it along with other Mega Bloks playsets. It’s very versatile, and it’s been tons of fun for Lucy.

At $14.99, the playset is a great value from Mega Bloks. Honestly? I would pay a bit more if the set came with a “real” brush and a Boots figurine.

There’s actually a story behind this building. Many, many years ago – back when my grandfather (now 89) was a child – this was the local “grocery store” for the area. I’ve always wanted to go inside and see if there was a jar or something left inside, but I’ve never worked up the courage. I’m afraid I’d find more spiders and rats than anything else! 🙂 I think it’s a neat little building, though, and the story behind it is pretty cool too.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter
I am so thankful for Easter and what it represents. Our Savior died and rose again. He didn’t stay dead, which means that I don’t have to go to hell! I can live with him in Glory forever. Makes my heart bubble over with joy to think that He did that just for me.

He died for you, too, and if you don’t know Him as your Savior, or you don’t have a close relationship with Him like He desires, it’s not too late! Just call on His name.

May each one of you have a very special day. Maybe you’ve got plans for church, Easter egg hunts, or something else entirely, but whatever you’re doing, enjoy it to the fullest.

Ok, so this one was REALLY hard for me. I couldn’t find any bugs to shoot yesterday, so I had to go with “spiderman.” (And, yes, I know that technically a spider is not an insect, but I’m tell you, I had a really hard time with this one!) Hope you all did better than me!
