Low Iron Infant Formula

I am having such a hard time finding Low Iron Infant Formula. It is impossible to find!

Ok, wait. I did find some on Amazon, but you have to buy an entire case of it. I cannot afford $150 for formula – especially if I don’t know how well Gage will take it.

My milk production has been horrible this time around. With all of my other kids, I produced an abundance of milk, and eventually had to throw away hundreds of ounces of frozen breastmilk. (I wish I had known how to sell breastmilk back then! I could have made a fortune!)

With Gage, I am barely producing anything. The child nurses all day, and still acts like he’s starving. I’ve done everything I can think of to help produce more milk, but nothing is working. It’s heartbreaking. When I give Gage a bottle of formula, he acts like he’s in heaven. His belly finally gets full, and he’s as happy as can be.

But, the formula is causing him to be constipated. Big time. He gets horrible belly aches and won’t do a “doo” for days.

I know it’s the iron in the formula. Ashley had the same problem when she was a baby, so I had to switch to low iron infant formula. Back then, it was so easy to find!

We live in the sticks, and it’s impossible to find anything, but I cannot find low iron infant formula anywhere. My husband works at a grocery store, so he’s contacted their offices to see if they can order some. We still haven’t heard anything back and it’s been weeks.

Can you find low iron infant formula in your area? Have you ever even had the need to look?

It’s beyond frustrating when you can’t find what your baby needs….

Easy Way to Earn Extra Entries

vote for lucy

Ok, so this hair bow contest is driving me crazy. Every time I catch up or pass the first person in the competition, she ends up getting more votes. The back and forth is driving me batty!

Now, I’m ready to kick some tail, so I’m giving you 10 extra entries into ALL of my giveaways today, tomorrow, and Wednesday, if you vote for Lucy. (Lucy is #5 – she’s holding Gage.) That’s 30 extra entries in as many of my giveaways as you want to enter over the next few days – just for making a quick vote.

In order to claim your extra entries, you must tell me one thing in each of the 10 comments you leave on each post: I need to know what number your vote brought the current total to. For example, if you selected #5 and clicked “Vote Now” and the total in column #5 went up to 121, your comments would look like this:

Voted for Lucy. 121 #1

Vote for Lucy. 121 #2

and so on.

Make sense?

And if you’ve already voted today, be sure to claim your eight extra entries.

My mom is coming into town tonight, so I’ll be scarce the next few days. I’d love to see this contest end with a bang!

Thanks for all your help!

Affresh Dishwasher Cleaner {Review}

Never in a million years did I ever think to clean my dishwasher. Sure, I would pull out the big pieces of food that got stuck at the drain of the dishwasher, but I never even thought about cleaning it out. The thought of pulling out the racks and trying to figure out how to finagle my way into the dishwasher to get every part of it clean just didn’t sound appealing. I honestly have no idea why I never thought to get in there and clean it out, but if we’re being honest here, I just never did.

Did you know that residue can actually build up inside your appliances and cause odor? I figured there had to be some cause for the odor, but I didn’t know that there was an easy way to fix the problem and get rid of the odor.

affreshEnter Affresh Dishwasher and Disposal Cleaner from the Whirlpool Corporation. Affresh® Dishwasher and Disposal Cleaner is safe for septic tanks, dishwashers, disposals and plumbing, and is the #1 recommended cleaner by KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Maytag and Amana brands. Until now, no other product on the market removed both dishwasher and garbage disposal odors. Whirlpool developed affresh® Dishwasher and Disposal Cleaner, an extension of the affresh® washer cleaner brand, to clean unseen particles that can cause odor.

Now, I don’t have a garbage disposal. We haven’t had one in almost 8 years, but we have always had a dishwasher. I tend to run my dishwasher at least once, if not twice a day. With six kids, my husband and myself, we go through tons of dishes. If I don’t load them in the dishwasher right away, the sink would soon be overflowing and driving me crazy.

I’ve noticed, though, that the longer I use my dishwasher, the worse it seems to clean. I’ve shelled out big bucks for “the best” dishwasher detergent, rinse aids, and everything else one could think of, but nothing really seemed to help.

Then, I tried Affresh Dishwasher and Disposal Cleaner. It was so easy to use! Just put a tablet in the soap holder, a tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher, and run it on the longest, hottest cycle.

In minutes, my entire house smelled clean and fresh. I loved it! No amount of my scrubbing the dishwasher ever would have made my whole house smell so good.

When the dishwasher was finished, I loaded up all the dishes in the sink and started another cycle. The dishes came out spotless on the first try – even after sitting in the sink that whole time.

A week after running the Affresh through the dishwasher, I ran out of my expensive dishwasher detergent. It was the end of the week, and payday was still days away, so I grabbed some generic dish soap. I figured it would have to get me through until payday, even if it meant running the dishwasher several times to get the loads clean.

Imagine my surprise – and my utter delight – to find out the dishes still came out clean – on the very first try! I am totally convinced that cleaning my dishwasher with the Affresh Dishwasher and Disposal Cleaner is the reason why. By removing all the grime that had built up in the dishwasher over the years, my dishwasher runs like new! I love doing the dishes now.

I’ll be using the Affresh Dishwasher and Disposal Cleaner again next month and tell you what my thoughts are after using it again.

For more information on Affresh, check out their website: www.affresh.com

You can purchase Affresh at retailers nationwide including Sears, Best Buy, Lowe’s, Kroger and Food Lion, and www.affresh.com. The Affresh® tablets are also available via a subscription through the Web site to help consumers save time and money – which is an awesome idea, and a way to make sure you keep those odors from coming back. At just $5.99 for a package of 6 tablets (that’s a 2 – 3 month supply!), the affresh tablets are an excellent value for your money.

ebeanstalk.com {Website Review}

ebeanstalk
I am always on the lookout for websites that offer toys for babies and kids that are fun, economical, and reasonably priced.

Recently, ebeanstalk asked me to check out their website and tell my readers what I thought. Good or bad, they wanted to know.

I took quite some time looking at their site. It is full of so much stuff! Once I was able to get past educational toy overload, I was able to find a whole lot of really great stuff. They’ve got more toys for toddlers than I’ve found on other websites.

One thing I absolutely love about the ebeanstalk website is that they have everything set up so you can find it quickly and easily. Say you need some ideas for fun gifts for a 1 year old. In the left hand column, they have 1 year old toys clearly marked. Then, they go so far as to divide it into toys for girls, boys, and the top sellers. They have it divided up for every age, every stage, and the most popular categories.

Another feature I love is their Birthday Reminders section. While I may not need any help remembering my kids birthdays, I have lots of family members that are constantly asking me “When’s his birthday again?” Now, I can point them to the ebeanstalk website and have them sign up for birthday reminders for all the kids. They’ll get a reminder about an upcoming birthday and get ideas and suggestions for gifts for each child. It’s genius!

I figured with all the great stuff they offer, and the quality of the toys, that their prices would be astronomical. Boy, was I ever wrong! Everything is very reasonably priced and there are toys for every budget.

I am super impressed with the ebeanstalk website, and I will definitely be using them to purchase birthday presents and Christmas presents for my kids and for the other kids in my life.

Check out ebeanstalk.com for yourself. What impresses you most?

Disclaimer: I was contacted by a representative of ebeanstalk and asked to review their website and share my thoughts with my readers. Opinions expressed in this post are 100% my own and have not been influenced in any way. I will receive a gift card for my time.

Wordless Wednesday: Happy Spiritual Birthday, Zander!

happy re-birthday

happy re birthday
Monday, Zander celebrated his very first “Re-Birthday.” We make a very big deal about re-birthdays around here for several reasons:
1. We want the kids to always remember the day they were saved.
2. We want the kids to understand that the day they were saved is the most important and most special day in their life.

This is a great way to encourage the kids in their walk with Jesus, and it makes them feel special.

I can’t wait until we’re celebrating re-birthdays of all the kids!

Not so wordless today. Sorry!

How embarrassing….

Last night, Parker was being extremely silly. We were sitting on the couch, and we were making him repeat what we were saying. He’d say it in some funny voice and get everyone in the room laughing.

Then, we branched out to asking Parker questions:

“Where does Daddy go every day?” “Work.”

“Who am I?” “Angie.”

“What are you supposed to call me?” “Mom.”

“What does Mommy call Daddy?”

….. “Stupid.”

Now I swear, I have NEVER called my husband stupid. Ever. The answer I was looking for was “honey.” Thankfullly, hubby thought it was absolutely hysterical, and we were all laughing with tears rolling down our faces.

Guess I’ll be even more careful with what I say in the future!

New Carefree Acti-Fresh Liners {Review & Giveaway}

carefree acti-fresh linersThis giveaway will end Saturday, July 9th at 11:59pm EST.

It’s another one of those taboo topics today. No one wants to talk about panty liners, even though they’re a necessity in every adult woman’s life.

That’s why Carefree has taken extra steps to be discreet, keeping you feeling fresh all day long. Their new Acti-fresh liners are so thin and absorbent, you will probably forget that you’re even wearing a liner. They are 40% thinner and up to twice as absorbent as the previous Carefree Body Shape Regular Liners. They are soft as your panties and the odor control system keeps you fresh for up to 8 hours. The to-go package design is compact and discreet, perfect for anyone. Carefree Acti-fresh liners are perfect for every day use, (pre-period and post-period), and you can use them while exercising, traveling, or any time you’re on the go!

Carefree sent me a “Freshen Up Essentials” kit, full of every day essentials that today’s woman-on-the-go needs. I received a pack of 20 Carefree Acti-Fresh Liners, a travel size body mist, a travel size baby powder, Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets, Listerine Pocketpaks Breath Strips, a travel size compact mirror, and a cute little travel bag to store it all in.

Lord knows that as a mom-on-the-go with 6 kids, I need something to help me feel fresh all day long. I love the new Carefree Acti-Fresh liners. They really are soft and comfortable, and you don’t even notice that they’re there. I love the new packaging with the little pink daisies, and it’s great that the liner is stuck directly to the wrapper. That means there are no extra strips of paper to deal with.

The entire kit is fantastic. My daughter loved it so much that she wanted to steal it from me! The bag stays in the diaper bag, so whenever we’re on the go, she and I can both use the products inside to stay fresh.

I am really impressed with the new Carefree Acti-Fresh liners and will continue to use them myself. I would also recommend them to any woman – mom or not – that wants to stay fresh no matter what she’s doing.

To learn more about the new Carefree Acti-Fresh liners, check out their website: CarefreeLiners.com (You can also request a free sample while you’re there!)

You can purchase Carefree Acti-Fresh liners at mass merchandise retailers, drugs stores, and grocery stores nationwide. They retail for $1.45/20-ct package, $3.49/54-ct package, or $6.60/120-ct package. It’s an excellent value for an excellent product!

Carefree is graciously offering up TWO (2) 20-ct packages of the new Carefree Acti-Fresh liners for one lucky reader.

To Enter

Visit the Carefree Website and look around. Then, come back here and tell me one feature of the new Acti-fresh liners that impresses you. (Don’t forget to request your free sample while you’re on their website!)

You Can Do A Graphic Novel {Book Review + Giveaway – 3 Winners!}

This giveaway will end Friday, July 8th at 11:59pm EST.

you can do a graphic novelMy son, Zander loves to draw. And from those drawings, he creates stories. He’s made robots that do the hula, and a plethora of superheroes with powers even the top dogs haven’t come up with. (I was having trouble opening a can one day with my manual can opener, so Zander decided to create a super hero whose arm turned into a giant can opener that would take the lid off in seconds.)

I love his imagination, and I just know he’s going to be the next Stan Lee.

So, when I got the opportunity to review You Can Do A Graphic Novel by Barbara Slate, I jumped at the chance. Even if I don’t have any interest in ever creating a graphic novel, I know a young man that does, and I knew he’d jump all over the book.

I was right! As soon as it arrived, he snatched it out of my hands and didn’t put it down for hours. I’m not really sure how much of it he understood, but I’m pretty sure he understood it at least a little bit. Now, every story he draws, he’s very careful to have every part of the story Barbara Slate suggests having. And if he starts a story and can’t come up with a good climax, he scraps it and starts over. (He may have inherited his artistic ability from his grandpa, but he definitely got his mom’s need for perfection.)

We’ve had the book a couple of weeks now, and I always see Zander carrying it around, along with his art supplies. They’re always together, and it’s almost like he can’t do one without the other.

One thing that I love is that in the back of the book, there’s a glossary. I haven’t had to try and make up meanings for words in the book, they’re right there, easy to read and understand.

I know that I’m talking about this book and my (almost) 8 year old, but this book isn’t just for little kids. I enjoyed reading it and learning more about the stuff that Zander loves so much. It’s interesting and full of very useful tips. It’s perfect for anyone – of any age – that wants to learn how to create a graphic novel.

My favorite part of the book is on the front cover. It’s a quote by Stan Lee about the book. It states:
“I shudder at the thought of having to compete with a whole new gaggle of graphic novel creators! I tremble because if anyone can bring out the writer and artist hidden within society’s somnambulant psyche, it’s the titanically talented Barbara Slate. So please don’t read this book. I have a family to support!”

If it’s enough to scare the heebie jeebies out of Stan Lee, then it’s good enough for my boy! 🙂

If you – or someone you love has a love for graphic novels, this book is an excellent resource to teach them how they, too, can create their own graphic novel and be on their way to achieving their dreams.

To learn more about You Can Do A Graphic Novel by Barbara Slate, check out their website at YouCanDoAGraphicNovel.com. The book retails for $19.95, but you can find it on Amazon for just $13.57 and it’s eligible for free shipping.

Want to know the best news? I have 3 copies of the book to giveaway to my readers!

Father’s Day Gifts Were a Hit!

Last week, I told you that the kids and I were working on some handmade Father’s Day gifts for hubby.

I am pleased to say, he *LOVED* them! All day long, hubby kept telling me how much he loved everything.

When I posted, I didn’t have pictures of the completed projects, because they weren’t finished yet. We finished them up on Saturday, and here are the results:

Dad Rocks Father's Day Gift

To learn how I made these, click here: Getting Crafty with the Kids

And here’s a picture of the framed “Dad” print from ScrapWalls.com – It looks *awesome*! I am so glad I purchased this deal from PlumDistrict, because it made his entire day. He loved looking at all the pictures.

Want to see what big project I’m starting next? It’s a Ragamuffin Memo Garland. I have tons of old baby clothes that have little stains or signs of wear on them, or they’re just special to me. I figure this will be the perfect way to keep them forever and give them new life!

Tell me, How was Father’s Day for the Daddies in your life?

Happy Father’s Day!

While my Daddy may not be here, I do have one amazing hubby that I cannot wait to spoil rotten!

I hope you have a wonderful Father’s Day! Make those daddies feel special today!

Introducing Facebook Welcome Pages!

If you’re a regular around here, you know that I love to create custom blog designs for mom bloggers. I do it all – from blog design, logo design, website design, button and banner creation, twitter backgrounds, and so the list goes on.

One thing I had always wanted to try, but never really took the opportunity to learn, was how to create a custom Welcome Page for a Facebook Fan Page.

My friend Shana, the sweetest, most amazing crochet artist I know, contacted me and asked if I could create an etsy banner and a Facebook welcome page for her business. Not being one to turn down the opportunity to create something for a fellow mom, I told her I would love to! But, I warned her, I had never done a Facebook welcome page, and I wasn’t sure how it would turn out. Being the sweet soul that she is, she said she’d love to be my guinea pig and agreed to let me try it out.

Here’s her facebook welcome page: Blaze ‘n’ Crochet.

I am thrilled with the way it turned out – and so is she!

After that, I decided it was time to make one for my blog. So, here it is, the new welcome page for Blessed Beyond Words.

So Discouraged

I had thought that things were getting better. We could finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. After 10 days of being trapped in the house, the chickenpox were starting to heal, and we could finally think about getting out of here.

And then, it happened.

I ran to the dollar store yesterday to grab some bread and tuna fish. While I was there, I grabbed one of those little wading pools. I figured if the kids were stuck at home, I could make it a little more fun by putting the little pool on the deck.

Zander went to put on his swim trunks. All of a sudden, I heard him yell, “Awwww…. Man!”

I asked what was wrong, and he came down and showed me: Dozens of new chickenpox spots all over his legs.

SIGH.

I am so discouraged. I feel like Satan is attacking at every turn. All I want is to get back to normal – church, friends, even just taking the kids and going to the park for a few minutes sounds like absolute heaven.

I know things could be so much worse. I am aware of that. I guess I’m just taking another day to wallow in self-pity.

I seem to be doing that so much lately.

God cannot be pleased with the way I am handling this entire ordeal. Maybe that’s why it’s continuing to go on. Maybe He wants me to learn patience and to let go and lean on Him.

I need some grown-up conversation here, so tell me: When you get down and discouraged, what comforts you?

I can’t wait to hear your answers!

Getting Crafty with the Kids

Father’s Day is just around the corner, and since we are trapped in a house thanks to our chickenpox outbreak, we have had to get seriously crafty to give him something special.

Hubby is already getting a fantastic collage from ScrapWalls, but I wanted to do something more. (I have this thing – I just can’t give one gift. I have to go all out. It’s a serious weakness.)

Anyway, I decided we needed to get crafty. I found a recipe online for a cute “Dad Rocks” project here.

I ended up modifying it a bit and creating my own version as well as an additional gift with the kids hand prints.

Here’s our Dad Rocks project:

Dad Rocks

And here’s the hand print gift I mentioned:

kids prints
Yes, that’s Gage’s foot. 🙂 He had no desire to open his hand and let me put it on there, so we improvised!

I’m heading to Walmart on Saturday to get Ash the stuff she needs for camp. While we’re there, we’ll grab a couple of blocks of wood from the craft section and some heavy-duty glue. I’m going to spray these with a clear sealant, paint the wood, and then attach the pieces to the wood. Then, I’ll use some fabulous Command Brand strips to hang them up. I’ll share pictures as soon as we get them finished up.

The recipe that the girl posted on her site didn’t work so well for me, but tweaking it did. Here’s what I did:

Ingredients:
1/4 cup salt
3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup water
food coloring (optional)
parchment paper (optional)

Preheat oven to 250*

Mix together the flour, salt, and water in a bowl until it forms a dough. If the dough is too sticky, keep adding flour. (Just be careful, because if the dough gets too dry, it will crack in the oven!)

Once you have the dough at the right consistency, form it into a ball. Tear off a piece of parchment paper, and use a rolling pin to flatten the ball into an oval shape that’s about 1/2 an inch thick. (Make sure it’s even, or it will do funny things – like bubble up – in the oven.)

Use rocks to spell out Dad Rocks. Push the rocks into the dough as far as you can.

Place the item on a cookie sheet. (Tip: Keep it on the parchment paper, so it won’t stick to your cookie sheet!) Bake in the oven for 2 – 3 hours, or until completely dry. Spray front and back with a clear sealant (optional, but it will last longer if you do!).

For the hand print project, I doubled the recipe above, but did everything else the same. (I used a toothpick to write the year and the kids’ names in the dough.) It had to cook longer – almost 5 hours, but that’s because it was a lot of dough. You won’t need to double it if you only have a couple of small hands.

My kids had a blast doing this together, and we can’t wait to finish up the projects and give them to Daddy on Father’s Day!

Now, you tell me: Are you making Dad a gift this year?

Sweet Valley Confidential: 10 Years Later {Book Review}

Sweet Valley ConfidentialBack in Junior High and High School, there were many times after school that my brother and I would have to wait at the library next door to the school until our Dad was able to pick us up. That meant hours each day surrounded by thousands of books. After I would finish my homework, I would head over to the “teen” section of the library and grab a Sweet Valley High book. I loved them so much that I would read the books over and over again until the next book in the series was available.

When Ashley was 3, she and I moved back to Ohio from the Chicago area, and I went to yard sales all the time. At one yard sale, I found a girl my age that was selling her entire collection of Sweet Valley High books, so I just had to grab them. I hoped that someday Ashley would share my love for reading, and these would be a fun escape from the day-to-day. It’s ok. You can tell me that I’m a dork. I know that. The books were full of nothing educational or fundamental to life as we know it, but it was a great way for me to escape my normal geeky little life.

Imagine my delight when I received word that Sweet Valley Confidential: 10 Years Later was set to be released, and the publishers wanted to send me a copy! I was thrilled! It had been years since I even thought about Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield and the rest of the Sweet Valley High gang.

Before I get to my review, here’s a synopsis of the book:

Ten years after graduating from Sweet Valley High, the Wakefield twins have had a falling-out of epic proportions. When Jessica commits a complete and utter betrayal, Elizabeth flees to New York to escape the pain and immerse herself in her lifelong dream of becoming a journalist.

Jessica remains in California, dealing with the fallout of her heart-wrenching choices. She has a career she loves and lots of old friends, but she missis her sister, hor oldest best friend. With Elizabeth has her enemy, Sweet Valley is no longer the idyllic town of their youth.

Jessica longs for forgiveness, but Elizabeth can’t forget her twin’s duplicity. She decides the only way to heal her broken heart is to get revenge. Always the “good” twin, the one getting her reckless sister out of trouble, Elizabeth is now about to turn the tables…

Author Francine Pascal finally unfolds the continuing story of Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield – and the whole gang from Sweet Valley – in this exciting new contemporary novel, sure to be a delight and a surprise for the millions of fans of these beloved characters.

  • Hardcover: 304 pages
  • Publisher: St. Martin’s Press (March 29, 2011)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0312667574
  • ISBN-13: 978-0312667573

There are things that I liked – and didn’t like – in the book.

First, I liked the fact that Sweet Valley is still an escape from the every day. I also like the back and forth in the book between New York and Sweet Valley. And the book is written in the same type of context as the Sweet Valley High books. Back and forth from one person’s perspective to another. So much the same, and yet so very, very different.

I did not like the language in the book. Call me a prude, but I truly believe that just because you “grow up” doesn’t mean you need to use foul language. There are beyond-trashy details throughout the book that made me cringe. And one story line could have been completely left out. Then there’s the fact that Jessica uses the words “like” and “so” more than any other creature on this planet. I was like so over it by like chapter 2.

Overall, it was a pretty good book. Something I would pack in my suitcase to read by the pool on a vacation. I would have purchased this book had it not been sent to me to do this review, just because I loved Sweet Valley High so much as a kid.

If you’d like to escape the every day and drift off back to Sweet Valley, definitely check out the book. Just be warned, it may not be exactly what you were hoping for…

Having A Bad Day?

I am.

I’m not sure if being stuck in the house with 6 kids is finally starting to get to me, or if it’s because I’ve simply decided to wallow in self pity today.

Whatever the case, there’s only one sure way to get me to smile on a day like today.
