About Bebe au Lait
Originally called “Hooter Hiders,” Bebe au Lait nursing covers were created by Claire Ekelund because of her own desire to discreetly nurse her baby in public and not have to leave the room at every feeding. Claire wanted to create a nursing cover that was easy to use, machine washable, and stylish. She added a rigid neckline that allows Mom and Baby eye contact during feedings. She also included other features such as small-item storage and a clean-up pocket made from the softest terry cloth. As their website states, “Mom sees Baby…Baby sees Mom…discreet…on-the-spot cleanup…perfect!”
More from the Bebe au Lait website:
Hooter Hiders was an immediate sensation and gained overnight publicity and fame. Highlighted in popular magazines such as US Weekly, People, Fit Pregnancy and VanityFair.com and owned by Hollywood mommies Gwen Stefani, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Liv Tyler, Mira Sorvino and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Hooter Hiders were in demand!
The creator of Hooter Hiders figured that some clients may not be too keen on the name, so along with her husband, they decided to rename them Bebe au Lait nursing covers. When many of their original clients let them know that they would always be “Hooter Hiders” in their hearts, the creators decided to sell their fabulous nursing covers under 2 brand names: Hooter Hiders for the “tongue-in-cheek” crowd, and Bebe au Lait for the “mommy chic” types.
All of the fabrics used in their stylish nursing covers (and other products!) are hand-selected and expertly designed with chic moms in mind.
Breastfeeding is something to be proud of. Bebe au Lait allows modern moms to do so wherever and whenever, in style.
My Review of Bebe au Lait Nursing Covers:
Bebe au Lait recently sent me a nursing cover to test out. They let me pick the fabric, and I really had the hardest time trying to decide which one I wanted. They offer some of the most beautiful fabrics I have seen.
I finally gave my contact at Bebe au Lait a choice of several fabrics and told them to surprise me. It was just that hard to decide.
A few days later, my package arrived, and I was beyond excited to see which fabric they had sent. Much to my delight I opened the package to discover a the Bebe au Lait Kensington Nursing Cover. It was even prettier than pictured on the website.
I have tested many nursing covers over the years. Parker is the 4th baby that I’ve breastfed, and I’ve always had such a difficult time breastfeeding in public. I would go out to the van or find an empty room to nurse the baby. It’s difficult and such a pain. Other nursing covers that I’ve used haven’t worked out so well. Some don’t stay latched. One harsh tug from baby, and hello, hooters! UGH. I’ve also tested some that were just too small and didn’t offer enough coverage. I like to be completely covered and have baby completely covered. A toe popping out is one thing, but what’s the point of a nursing cover if it’s not going to cover anything? And none of the nursing covers I’ve tried before have had the rigid neckline that Bebe au Lait nursing covers have. I love that I can see Parker, he can see me, and we can keep eye contact while feeding. What a beautiful way to bond with your baby – even while out and about!
Parker and I put the nursing cover to the test. We took all of the kids out to the park, and then we tested the nursing cover. Parker is going through this phase where he *loves* to pull the blanket (or whatever I’m using to cover us up) off. There was no way he was pulling the Bebe au Lait nursing cover off, though. It was on nice and tight. He and I both loved that we could see each other. He’d pull off and look up at me and just smile. That little smile can just melt my heart!
I now carry my Bebe au Lait nursing cover with me everywhere. It’s always rolled up in the diaper bag, ready to go. I’ve got a set of baby play keys tucked into the terry cloth pocket of the nursing cover, and it’s ready to go whenever I need it! I absolutely adore this cover, and I am so thankful to Bebe au Lait for allowing me to try it out.
