Bing believes that every child deserves a great education. They support teachers, educators, and parents who make that possible with products, programs, and donations that help provide a great learning environment.
Now, they’re at it again, and this time it’s with the Our School Needs Contest.
Schools today are struggling. As you all know, I recently put my kids back into public school after a 2 year homeschooling hiatus. Now, we’ve been thrust back into the world of budget cuts, too-full classrooms, gym equipment that’s falling apart, and all the usual problems public schools have to deal with. It seems like every day, my kids come home complaining that there’s something else wrong, or more changes being made to how things are done because of the lack of funding. It’s heartbreaking, really, and I can only imagine the stress it puts on teachers and administrators at the school.
With the Our School Needs Contest, Bing is allowing teachers and students to tell the world what they think their school needs most through essays, photographs, and videos.
This is such a fantastic opportunity for schools all over the country, I wanted to make sure my readers didn’t miss their opportunity to get their submissions in. After all, one school could win the grand prize of $100,000 to benefit their school. PLUS, 3 other schools will win the first-place prize of $50,000. That means Bing is giving away a quarter of a million dollars to benefit schools around the country! Way to go, Bing!
Students and teachers can submit their entries through this Friday, October 22nd in 3 different categories: Grades K – 6, 7 – 9 and 10 – 12. There will be one overall grand-prize winner, and then one first-prize winner from each category. (Winners will be announced Tuesday, November 9th.)
Here’s how it works:
- Step 1: Teachers and students can create an entry for their school, by answering this question: “Our School Needs:___________”. They must then write an essay (500 – 800 words), take pictures (3 – 5 photos), and film a video (max. 3 minutes in length, not required). Students under 18 will need a parent/guardian or teacher submit the entry on their behalf.
- Step 2: Entries are made available for everyone to see and rate online. The 5 top rated submission in each category (15 total) is guaranteed a slot in the final panel. Top rated submissions and the top editors picks will then be turned over to a distinguished panel of judges who will determine the 15 finalists. The last date to rate entries is October 24th! (So, once you get your entry in, make sure you ask people to rate it!)
- Step 3: Voting will begin on October 27th.
If you need more help with the submission process, Bing has created a video tutorial to help you out. You can view it here: Our School Needs Submission Process Video
This is truly an amazing opportunity for any school to enter! Please don’t miss your opportunity to let your voice be heard and maybe win a *huge* prize for your child’s school! Enter the Our School Needs Contest today!
