That’s right! Clorox and Heidi Murkoff, (the best-selling author of the must-have books for all moms-to-be and moms of newborns and toddlers), have teamed up to help moms out there make their homes healthier. Now you can know exactly what to expect when it comes to maintaining a healthy home.
I’m sure you’re thinking, “UGH. Do I really want to know about all those germs? It’s going to be impossible to run a household and keep my home healthy. I’m going to have to scrub everything a hundred times, and I’m going to have to pattern my lifestyle after that of Adrian Monk.”
Admit it. That’s what you’re thinking, right?
Well, guess what? It’s really not that hard to maintain a healthy home. I was actually quite surprised at how easy some of Heidi’s tips were to follow! And, honestly? If I can do this, anyone can. I’ve got 7 people living in a very small 3 bedroom, one level home. If I can have this much stuff and follow Heidi’s tips to maintain a healthy home, I *know* you can do it, too!
Mom Central asked me if I would review the What to Expect® Guide to a Healthy Home. The book is 16 pages long, and it is chock full of useful information. Written in a format just like the What to Expect Books we all know and love, it is easy to follow, and the key points, quick tips, and “Did You Know” boxes are highlighted in a way that you can easily recognize them.
One of the very first tips she gives is one that I could have used for all 5 of my kids! All of my kids have been terrible about spitting up. I was changing and washing the sheets on their cribs and cradles all the time. It wore me out, and it was such a pain. But, I couldn’t have them sleeping on dirty spit-up soaked sheets! Heidi says, “Have a particularly prolific spitter? Place a spit-up pad under your baby’s head and tie it to the crib slats. That way you’ll only have to change the pad three times a day—instead of the sheets.” Such a simple tip, but one I never came up with on my own! (Don’t you just love those “Duh” Moments?)
In the first section of the book, Heidi goes through room by room and offers up ways to make your home healthier. The tips aren’t impossible to follow through with, and they don’t take hours to implement either. (Great news for this busy mom of 5!)
The second section of the book is devoted to forming healthy habits in your family. From washing your hands (all the time!) to handling germs while on the go, Heidi covers all your bases! (And I will totally think a little harder before allowing my kids the “3 second Rule” ever again!)
I loved this book so much that I printed out my copy, stapled it together, and have it here to turn to any time I need to. It is a fantastic tool to have on hand. I’m honestly hoping that Heidi expands on this a lot more and writes a full book on keeping a healthy home. (And, Heidi, while you’re at it, could you also write up a What to Expect for the tween & teenage years?) 🙂
Now, I *know* you’re dying to know how to get your own FREE copy. That’s right! You don’t have to pay a penny for it! Just visit the Clorox website and click the link to download your copy by clicking here.
