Today, I’m off celebrating and spending the day with my family. Things will get back to normal around here soon, but Zander is 7 years old today, and I’m putting work and everything else aside to ring in this special occasion.
My husband and I were married in September of 2002. We were told that we would probably never have children, and if we did, it would take a very long time for us to conceive. Boy, were “they” ever wrong. In November of 2002, just days before Thanksgiving, we found out a little blessing was on the way! It was a rough pregnancy – lots of bedrest and preterm labor, but we managed to hold on until 37 weeks and 1 day.
Now, here we are, 7 years later. Zander is the second of 5, and so different from the other kids – in good ways. He is quiet, very shy, and so artistic. He loves to read, write, draw, and do things that allow him to release the creativity he has inside. And you should hear this boy read! One of his favorite things to do is climb up on his bed with a good book. He’d stay up there all day and all night if I’d let him. He learns so quickly, and doesn’t ever forget a thing. (Believe me, I’ve tried distracting him, but it’s always to no avail!) The way his mind works just absolutely blows me away. He’s as smart as a whip, and isn’t afraid to let me know when I’m wrong. He is such a joy in my life, and I am so proud of him.
Zander, I want you to know how lucky I am to be your mom. Every day is better because you are a part of it. Thank you for your smiles, your hugs, and even for correcting me when I’m wrong. I am so glad you have given your heart to Jesus. Remember that He is the one person who will never let you down. Even though I make mistakes – a lot – He never does. He loves you, and He wants what’s best for you. Keep Him first in your life, and He’ll take care of you. I love you with my whole heart. Happy Birthday.
Feel free to leave your birthday wishes for Zander in the comments. I know he would love to read them!
