Hershey’s Track & Field Games {#myblogspark #Giveaway}

For most of us, Spring has sprung. It’s time to get our weary bones up off the couch and back outside. No more excuses for not exercising, it’s time to get healthy! Our kids are looking to us as guidance. If we teach them to get up and move at a young age, they’re much more likely to live a healthy lifestyle when they’re older.
Since 1978, Hershey’s, (you know, the awesome chocolate company!),has helped more than 10 million children get active and learn sportsmanship, hard work, dedication, and more of these types of valuable lessons with the HERSHEY®’S Track & Field Games. In these games, thousands of boys and girls – ages 9 to 14 – from nearly 4,000 North American communities will compete this Spring and Summer in track and field events with no cost of entry! All kids need to join in is a pair of shoes! Events include the standing long jump, a softball throw, and a variety of running and relay races. Each one is designed to get kids up and moving.
In August, the HERSHEY®’S Track & Field Games will hold it’s North American Final Meet in Hershey, PA. This final meet host 450 outstanding participants in a fun and exciting, all-expenses paid weekend trip to Hershey. Not only will these children participate in the final events, but they will also get to tour the world’s largest chocolate factory, visit Hersheypark Amusement Park, and take part in other exciting activities. It’s sure to be a weekend they’ll never forget! At the final meet, Nine-time Olympic Gold Medalist Carl Lewis and Olympic Decathlon Legend Rafer Johnson will return as HERSHEY®’S Track & Field Games ambassadors this year.
That’s not all HERSHEY® is doing, either, to encourage physical activity from kids and their families. They are teaming up with the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program to collect old, worn-out athletic shoes. These shoes will be recycled into Nike Grind, a material used in creating athletic and playground surfaces, as well as select Nike products. Those that participate in the HERSHEY®’S Track & Field Games will be invited to bring used athletic shoes to their state and provincial meets to help with the program. A HERSHEY®’S Track & Field Games playground will be awarded to a participating local community as part of the program’s work with the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program. (To date, the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program has recycled more than 25 million pairs of athletic shoes into Nike Grind since the early 1990s!)

There is NOT one in our area, but we will be camping, hiking, canoeing, and fishing all summer long.
Actually there’s one right in my town on the 5th of next month! I think a cousin of ours will be participating. This Spring and Summer, my family and I plan on spending lots of time at our local national park and going to the zoo =D
