Life has once again taken over, and is preventing me from posting like I need to. However, when one of my babies is sick, you can be sure they will always come first. Posts can wait. My kids cannot. That has always been my view, and it will continue to be.
Since Parker is finally sleeping, and hubby and Lucy left for the store, I can finally hop on here and update you on what’s going on.
Tuesday, the kids had off school. We spent the day taking photos for our Christmas cards and then running errands. All day long, Parker was whiny and miserable. When we went out to dinner that evening, he wouldn’t touch his food. I knew immediately something was wrong, because Parker will always eat. He felt a little warm, so I took him home, gave him some Motrin, and snuggled on the couch. An hour later, he was hot to the touch. I took a rectal temperature, and his fever was 104*. I rushed him to the ER, and we spent hours (and hours) there.
At the ER, they did a chest x-ray and some blood work. The doctor then came back in and said that he had pneumonia, and his white blood count was “quite elevated.” They gave him a shot of antibiotics, and made us wait for half an hour before we could go home.
That night, Parker’s fever spiked to 105*. We got in with the doctor first thing in the morning, and she went over all the tests and x-rays from the night before. She said there was no pneumonia, but something was going on, because his white blood cell count was so high. She did a strep test and the flu test, but both came out negative. She said that it’s some kind of viral infection, and the fever will probably last 3 – 4 days.
We’re now on day 3, and I can’t keep his temperature below 102* – and that’s with doing the Tylenol/Motrin cocktail. When it gets close to his next dose of medicine, it spikes between 104* and 105*. I’ve never seen such a high fever that lasts so long.
So, needless to say, I haven’t been able to get much of anything done. My days – and nights – are devoted to keeping Parker comfortable since his fever is so high, and he is just absolutely miserable.
If ya’all have any prayers that you can spare, I’d really appreciate it. I’d just like him to be comfortable again and be rid of this dog-gone fever.
I’ll be back as soon as I can, and I’ll thank you in advance for any prayers you can spare.
