30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 30

Today, I am giving thanks for everything I neglected to mention.

30 Days of Giving ThanksI have so much to be thankful for. 30 days doesn’t even begin to cover it. I have really enjoyed finding one thing to thank Him for every day this month. Although I have to admit, this month just flew by. May I constantly have a heart of thanks and not just be thankful at Thanksgiving time, but every day of the year.

Thank you for participating in the 30 Days of Giving Thanks challenge. I hope it’s touched you as much as it has touched me. I’ve so enjoyed reading your posts and getting to know you better.

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 29

Today, I am giving thanks for our troops.

30 Days of Giving ThanksI am blessed to know many people that serve in the military. They sacrifice and give more than anyone else I know. I am so thankful for those who have given so much so that I can be free. Words cannot express how thankful I am to those serving in our military – and to their families for allowing them to go.

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 28

Today, I am giving thanks for the health of my family.

30 Days of Giving ThanksWith 8 of us, we certainly get our share of colds and sniffles. But for the most part, we are healthy. No hospital visits, no constant trips to the doctors office, no fretting and worrying over a problem or illness that cannot be cured. We are so undeserving, but I am thankful that God has seen fit to keep my family healthy.

Today, I am giving thanks for the luxuries of life….

30 Days of Giving ThanksI have food in my cupboards, a car that gets me where I need to go, a warm bed to sleep in, running water, clothes to wear, and so many little luxuries that I take for granted every day. May I be careful to give thanks for ALL things.

Today, I am giving thanks for my Readers.

30 Days of Giving ThanksWhen I started this blog several years ago, I had no idea that I would come to love it as much as I do. And the reason I love it so much? Because every day I get to meet amazing people like YOU. Your comments and emails are so encouraging and uplifting. You truly mean the world to me. Thank you for stopping by this blog every time that you do. It is so appreciated.

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 25

Today, I am giving thanks for God’s master plan.

30 Days of Giving ThanksIt’s so funny. So many times when I talk to God, I find myself telling Him how I think things should be. I have an “I want it now” type of attitude that I am constantly working to change. I need to remember that God has a perfect plan for my life. When I let Him have control, that’s when things just fall into place – no matter what the situation. I read a quote the other day that perfectly sums this up: “even though the rest of my life is a mystery to me, God knows every word from once upon a time to the end.” It’s all in His control – just as it should be.

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 24

Today, I am giving thanks for Thanksgiving.

30 Days of Giving ThanksI can’t help but be thankful for a holiday that we can set aside to thank our Creator for all the He has blessed us with. This is my favorite holiday, and it’s not just because of the turkey, the dressing, the mashed potatoes, the green bean casserole, and all the desserts… although all of that is wonderful, there’s so much more to it.

Thank you, Lord, for all your mercies. I am so blessed. ♥

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 23

Today, I am giving thanks for frozen pizza.

30 Days of Giving ThanksOr carry out pizza… or pretty much any kind of pizza you can find. Down here, our pizza choices are limited. Very limited. And not very good. But, pizza is pizza, and when we’re in a hurry, or I just don’t feel like cooking, pizza is always an option that I know everyone will enjoy.

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 22

Today, I am giving thanks for School Breaks.

30 Days of Giving ThanksThe kids are on Thanksgiving Break this week, and I am sooooooo thankful for the chance to sleep in just a little while later every day. Getting up super early to drive all the kids down to the bus stop makes for some very cranky babies that I’m left home with all day. Not needing to wake them up to run to the bus stop for one entire week is so wonderful.

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 21

Today, I am giving thanks for Facebook.

30 Days of Giving ThanksI know, I know. It sounds crazy. But, I really am thankful for Facebook.

Because of Facebook I….

  • Have gotten back in touch with friends that I thought were gone forever. I’ve found friends from elementary school, middle school, high school, college, and churches I’ve attended in the past. I’ve moved so far away from so many of them, but thanks to Facebook, we can keep in touch easier than ever before.
  • Have made new friends, found new blogs to read, and have even fallen in love with social networking.
  • Can easily spy on my “secret sister” at church and see what her immediate needs are. I know how to pray for her daily.
  • Can update my family on my kids and our lives down here.

So, call me corny, but I really am thankful for Facebook. It’s brought back people into my life that never should have been missing from it.

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 20

Today, I am giving thanks for my Mother-in-Law.

30 Days of Giving ThanksMy Mother-in-Law is truly one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She has a heart of gold and treats me like her own.

I’ll never forget the first time I cooked for her. {Anyone that knew me growing up should know how funny that sentence sounds.} I never had anyone to teach me how to cook. Now, if you needed to know how to order your steak at a restaurant, I’m your girl. But when it actually comes to cooking something? You didn’t want me anywhere near the kitchen.

Anyway, hubby and I had been dating for awhile and we were getting pretty serious. Once a week, we would go to my soon-to-be MIL’s house for dinner. Well, I wanted to prove to her that I could take care of her son as well as she could, so I invited her over to my house for dinner one night.

I was totally gung-ho into Pampered Chef at the time, and decided I would make one of their recipes: Roasted Chicken with Potatoes & Carrots. A friend of mine made it for me once, and it looked so easy – and tasted so good. I put the chicken, the veggies and the seasoning in the roaster and put it in the oven. The whole house smelled so good, and I couldn’t wait to serve her this amazing dinner that *I* had cooked.

I cooked the chicken for the recommended time, pulled it out, and cut into it. The chicken started bleeding. Oh my gosh. I’d never seen anything like it. My MIL calmly suggested we cook it a little longer.

We ended up cooking that sucker for another 2 hours, and it STILL wouldn’t die. Every time we’d cut into it, we’d get the same results. I was completely traumatized thinking that my MIL was never going to let me marry her son. I couldn’t even cook a darn chicken!

We ordered a pizza that night instead, and we’re still laughing about that story to this day. My MIL {and my husband} will tell you that I’ve come a loooooooong way from that first dinner. But to this day, my Pampered Chef roasting pan still sits in a box, and I have never, ever attempted to make a whole chicken again.

Thank you, Juanita, for everything. You’ve always been kind, loving, and like a mother to me from the first time I met you. I love you so much, and I am so thankful that God put you – and your son – in my life.

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 19

Today, I am giving thanks for my Christian Education.

30 Days of Giving ThanksGrowing up, I only ever went to a Christian School, from preschool until I graduated. I attended 3 different Christian schools, and I am so thankful for the opportunities each one brought to me. I made life-long friends at each school – friends I still “see” all the time on Facebook.

But most of all, the entire time, my education was based around the Bible.

I have my children in public school right now, and it really is the hardest thing in the world for me. I hate it. I wish, with all my heart, that I could afford to give my children the education that I received, but I can’t. For one, there aren’t many Christian Schools down here, and with 6 kids, I can’t imagine the cost. I know there’s homeschooling, and we did that for 2 years. I loved every second of it, but it just wasn’t right for the kids. Zander needs social interaction with other students, and Ashley needs to learn from someone other than her mom.

I am so blessed to have had the godly education, the godly teachers, and the godly curriculum I did while growing up. I hated wearing skirts every day, but looking back now, I’m thankful that I had such good schools to go to.

Today, I am giving thanks for MOPS.

30 Days of Giving ThanksA few years ago, I was sitting in the doctor’s office with one of the kids, and my wonderful doctor, Cindy Libert, handed me a business card for MOPS. I had heard of MOPS, but I had never been to a meeting – nor did I have any idea there was such a thing in our little town.

I went to the first meeting and I was instantly hooked. I met some of the sweetest ladies on earth at that meeting, and I finally felt surrounded by moms who totally “got” what I was going through.

For the past {almost} 3 years now, I have been a part of the steering team for our local MOPS group. I’ve made some wonderful friends, gotten to hear amazing speakers, and just feel like a better mom because of my MOPS group.

I’d be lost without you all. I ♥ my MOPS girls. 🙂

Today, I am giving thanks for our Wednesday Night Prayer Meetings.

30 Days of Giving ThanksI know I already gave thanks for my church, but I feel that our Wednesday Night Prayer Meetings need a post all of their own. They are exactly the “refueling” I need in the middle of the week. If I miss a Wednesday night, Sunday feels so far away.

There are special classes for my children on Wednesday nights where they can learn about Jesus on their own level. They get so excited about going, and I love seeing them excited about church.

I’d be lost without my Wednesday Night Prayer Meetings to get me through.

Today, I am giving thanks for Pepsi.

30 Days of Giving ThanksI know it sounds crazy, but Pepsi is that jolt of energy I need when I’m feeling drained.

It’s the little things in life, right?

Today, I am giving thanks for my online friends.

30 Days of Giving ThanksMy life is full of people I have never even met in real life, but they are a blessing to me. Whether they are readers on my blog, other mom bloggers, clients that I’ve worked with, or someone I met online in a parenting forum, I am so blessed to have amazing people that I can call my friends.

I’ve got online friends that I pray for daily, and I know many are praying for me as well. We’ve never stood face to face, but we still share a very special bond.

I’m a lucky, lucky girl. Thank you to all of my web friends out there. You are all so special to me.

Today, I am giving thanks for sleeping children.

30 Days of Giving ThanksI don’t get to experience it often, but when I do, it is definitely something to be thankful for. Especially when they’re all sleeping at the same time….

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 13

Today, I am giving thanks for answered prayer.

30 Days of Giving ThanksAbout a year ago, I started a prayer journal. I left the first 10 pages or so blank so that I could write in new prayer requests, update old requests, and keep a log of what prayers the Lord has answered. Every morning, the first thing I do is grab my glasses, my Bible, and my prayer journal. I make updates and add new requests as needed, have a time of prayer, read my devotional book and my Bible, and then pray again, this time writing my prayer in my journal. I truly believe that prayer is the most powerful weapon we have in this world, and it’s our duty to be praying constantly.

As I post this, I’m flipping through my prayer journal. There are so many requests I’ve put in there that have been updated with the word **ANSWERED!** beside them and then an explanation of the answer God gave for that request. Sometimes, the updates are difficult. For years, I had been praying for a man in our church and his wife and his son. In the past year, he lost both of them to illnesses. But, so many times, there are reasons to rejoice. I have a friend that has had several miscarriages. Now, she’s carrying a baby, and everything looks great – after so many struggles and trials, she finally has a healthy, happy pregnancy.

If you aren’t making a note of the answers to prayer God is giving you, let me encourage you to do so. It’s so easy to get discouraged, but when I go through my prayer journal and read all the times God has put His hand on a situation, it helps remind me that Someone really cares and is in complete control.

Thank you, Lord, for the prayers you have answered and the prayers you will answer. It may not always be the answer I want, or in the time that I expect it in, but Your Way is perfect.

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 12

Today, I am giving thanks for my Country.

30 Days of Giving ThanksI m so thankful to live in America. It may not be perfect, but it’s still free. I can attend any church that I prefer. I can read my Bible, Pray, and talk about my Savior without fear of losing my life.

I know yesterday was Veterans day, but I think we should be thankful for our Vets every day of the year. The sacrifices they make so that we can be free should never go unnoticed. I am thankful for those who have given their time, their service, and even their lives. There aren’t enough words to ever truly say thank you.

30 Days of Giving Thanks: Day 11

Today, I am giving thanks for my childhood.

30 Days of Giving ThanksI am so blessed to have had the childhood that I did. My parents always made sure that we had fun and had everything we needed. Sometimes they went above and beyond and my brother and I got far more than we ever deserved. It’s quite like the way God treats me as His child. I don’t deserve anything that God has given to me, and yet, He continues to bless me day after day.

When I was really young, my parents traveled around to churches and sang in a gospel group. It gave me the opportunity to meet people from all over, form friendships, and learn about Christ. Oh, the stories I could tell….

I remember traveling all over the place: Disney World, Arizona, even Hawaii. I had opportunities that most kids only ever dream of.

My kids may not get everything that I did when I was a child, but I hope they, too, can look back and one day be thankful for their childhood. For having parents that loved them more than anything and would do anything for them.
