My ConAgra #BackyardBash

The weather around here has been absolutely perfect lately. This weekend was no exception, so I decided to host a backyard bash with some of my closest friends and family.

Let me tell you, it was honestly the most fun I have had in a very long time. We ate, we played, we talked, and we laughed. Oh my gosh, did we laugh. I’m pretty sure I burned more calories laughing last night than I did the entire time we played volleyball in 90* heat.

Family and good friends are so important to me. And so is knowing where my food comes from. Last night, many of the recipes were made using ConAgra products: Hunts tomatoes, Egg Beaters, and Chef Boyardee.

Before I get to the details and pictures from my party, I want to share a few need-to-know facts with you:

  • Chef Boyardee was a real person named Hector Boiardi. He wanted to make the best sauce and pasta dinner possible easily accessible to every family. {He actually owned a restaurant in Cleveland, Ohio.} It’s been more than 85 years, but Chef Boyardee continues the tradition of sharing quick and easy meals made with authentic recipes, no preservatives, and only quality ingredients.
  • Egg Beaters are real eggs. They just don’t have the yolk. They are a heart-healthy option to eggs from the shell. Egg Beaters provide the energy and nutrients your body needs without all the calories, fat, and cholesterol you find in shell eggs.
  • Hunt’s tomatoes are grown in Oakdale, California, and have been naturally steam peeled. They also contain no artificial ingredients or preservatives.

Here, take a look at this sheet. It will help you understand it all a little bit more. {You can click on it to view it larger.}

For the party, I selected 3 recipes to share with my family and friends: Greek Pasta Salad, Lemon Bars, and Braided Spaghetti Loaf. They were such a hit that I want to share those recipes with my readers! {Rather than bog down this post with 3 recipes, I will post them throughout the week as individual posts.} I can promise you that you are going to love them!

During the party, we also planted tomato seeds, {which I can’t wait to be able to pick soon!}, and buried a time capsule that we’ll dig up in 5 years. {In the time capsule, I buried a current family picture, and we all wrote what our “dreams” or goals are – much like Hector Boiardi’s dream to have his famous food in kitchens all across America. It was really special to hear each of the kids dreams. Jace’s made me laugh. It said, “I want to go one week without getting in trouble one time.” I hope he’s able to accomplish that several times over in the next 5 years. 🙂 }

Here are some pictures from the party. {Ignore the photo of me where I am beet red. I spent all day in the sun yesterday, and it left me glowing – and not in a good way!}

Here’s me at the food table {The lemon bars are still in the fridge} :

And here’s the gang having fun:

I think the party finally ended around 11 o’clock. It was such a fantastic night with friends and family that we just didn’t want it to end. We will definitely have to do this again… and I know what recipes we’ll be using!

I am so thankful for a company like ConAgra foods that provides high quality ingredients and isn’t afraid to tell me where my food comes from. I will continue to feed my family Hunts tomatoes, Egg Beaters, and Chef Boyardee products, because they are all products I can trust and feel good serving my family.

Just a Quick Update…

After yesterday’s post about my dear friend and her baby, a search party went on for a photographer in the Carson City, Nevada area. I wanted to let you all know that we have found one!

My prayer is that her ultrasound scan on Monday will reveal things are not as bad as originally thought, and that my friend won’t even need the photographer that’s on stand-by.

I want to thank each one of you for your prayers, and beg you to continue to pray for my friend Candice and her baby. She has faced so much, and she can use all the strength and prayers she can get.

I also want to give you a head’s up. I’m going to be importing a bunch of blog posts from another blog I run today. With #6 on the way, I need to simplify, so by combining as much as I can into one place will really help that. After today, you can look for a new section of the blog called “The Funny Things My Kids Say.” I hope it will bring a smile to your face. You may ended up with a bunch of posts in the daily email because of the transfer. I’ll just apologize ahead of time, and hope it won’t bother you too much.

I am blessed to have the greatest friends and readers in the world. Thank you so much for all that you do!

Can’t bring myself to post today…

I try to mix in some personal posts here and there on my blog. I feel it’s important that my readers get to know ME, and see me as more than just someone who writes reviews and giveaways. While the reviews and giveaways are fun, and definitely help my stats, I want you to see the real me, too. I love when I stumble upon someone’s blog and they write about themselves as well. It makes me want to get to know them, and I’ve actually made many, many friends in the blogosphere because of it. This will be one of those personal posts.

Today, I am struggling. Earlier this week, it was my own fault. I had allowed Satan to grab hold and get me more discouraged than I have ever been in my life. It had nothing to do with my pregnancy – all is going well there there, but a million other things came crashing down. I was angry at God. Angry at people I had called my friends. Just angry. And that’s not like me at all.

Yesterday, it took a friend’s pain to make me realize just how selfish I have been lately. You see, yesterday, a very dear friend of mine found out that the results of her most recent ultrasound were not good. It looks as though her baby may have Ventriculomegaly AND Hydrocephalus. Both of these are very dangerous conditions, and it is absolutely heartbreaking. She has an appointment for a level two ultrasound on Monday, as she can’t get in any sooner because of the holidays. However, her doctor has told her that she could go into labor at any time. She isn’t even 20 weeks along at this point.

I cannot imagine what she is going through after hearing all of this. My heart hurts so badly for her, and I’m sure it’s nothing compared to what she is feeling.

I’ve contacted a friend of mine with the NILMDTS organization to find a photographer in the Carson City, NV area, but we are having no luck. If you know of a professional photographer in that area, would you please contact me? I’ve looked into plane tickets to get there myself, but they’re over $900. Plus, I don’t even know that I’d make it in time, since I’m on the other side of the continent. So, please, if you know a photographer, ask them if they know anyone in that area.

And, I know that so many of you are prayer warriors. Please, please, please pray for this family and their baby. I’m praying that she just had a bad scan and that a second ultrasound will reveal that things aren’t as bad as they seem. We serve a mighty God, who is able to do things we cannot even begin to fathom. If you can spare a prayer for them, I would really appreciate it.

I’ll resume with normal posts soon. I just need to spend today in prayer for a friend and her baby.
