The Essential Gluten-Free Grocery Guide {Book Review}

I often talk on here about how I purchase a lot of gluten free products. My son Jace thrives on a gluten free diet, and so I do my best to keep his gluten intake to a minimum.

And I need all the help in the world to make that happen.

That’s why I am SO thankful for the The Essential Gluten-Free Grocery Guide by Triumph Dining Gluten-Free Publishing.

This book tells you everything you need to know about purchasing gluten free products. The symbols beside each product listed are easy to understand, and the lists in the book are easy to follow and make it simple to find exactly what products you need.

The guide covers more than 44,000 products and helps eliminate so many of the challenges that come with gluten free shopping. It also has several pages of tips to help with grocery shopping such as picking a grocery store, pitfalls to avoid, and more. It also explains labels on products, how to use the product list in the guide, defines the symbols listed in the book, and explains some of the limitations of the guide.

This is by far the most comprehensive, easy to follow, absolute best guide I have found to help aid with gluten free shopping. I am so impressed with how detailed and full of information this book really is.

If you are living gluten free, if you are trying to start, or even if you are just thinking about trying more gluten free items, I highly recommend this book. I keep my copy inside my reusable bags so that I have it every time I enter the grocery store. I have my favorite items circled, and I’ve written the aisle number beside my favorite items. It has cut my shopping time in half. I love it!

#Applegate Makes Summer Grilling Better!

There is nothing that I love more than grilling out on summer nights. The smell of hotdogs cooking on the grill is one of my favorite summer scents. 🙂 And no one makes hot dogs on the grill better than my hubby. He can make each of the kids happy by cooking their hotdogs long enough that all you see are a few grill marks, but he’ll cook mine until the outside is completely charred and the inside is busting with juicy flavor. Lately we’ve started grilling corn on the cob along with our hotdogs. We figured it was a better alternative than greasy potato chips or french fries. We all just love it! {And I love how much easier the clean up is!}

Oh my. I think we may need to grill out tonight. My mouth is watering just typing this post.

To help get you thinking about Summer Grilling, I’ve created a Pinterest board just for Summer Grilling. Check it out for recipes, tips, ideas, and more! And if you’ve got a Summer Grilling pinterest board, I’d love it if you’d share it in the comments section of this post.

While grilling out is awesome, there can be a drawback… Did you know that there are many companies out there that use antibiotics to help promote animal growth or to compensate for the effects of their animals being raised in unsanitary and overcrowded conditions? I don’t know about you, but I like to know exactly what’s in the products that I’m feeding my family, and finding out that the animals used to make our meat may have been given unnecessary antibiotics is enough to make me cringe!

That’s why I am so grateful for companies like Applegate. Applegate makes sure their animals are never given antibiotics, any kind of hormones, or any type of artificial growth stimulator. Their products are made by using only natural and organic ingredients. Also, all of their hotdogs, burgers, bacon, and deli meat are gluten and casein free. And their products don’t contain nitrates or nitrites – ever. They use the old fashioned method of sea salt and celery juice to preserve their products instead. I love that!

Another great feature that I love about Applegate? If you happen to see an ingredient listed in one of their products, and you’re not quite sure what it is, all you have to do is email Applegate, and they’ll tell you what it is.

They offer the type of products that I would be proud to serve to my family.

And now, Atlanta residents can rejoice! Applegate products are now available in our area. To find a store that carries Applegate products, visit the Applegate Farms Facebook Page and click on the “Product Locator.”

I also recommend that you become a fan of Applegate Farms on Facebook. Just click the like button below.

I’m so thankful there are companies out there like Applegate that take pride in the quality of their products. I am proud to support them and serve their products to my family. Check out the Applegate website to learn more about their company, their products, and to find a store near you!

Udi’s Gluten Free Foods {Review}

I don’t post an awful lot about being gluten-free here on my blog. I do know that I’ve mentioned several times, though, that my 7 year old Jace is gluten-intolerant. I discovered his sensitivity to gluten after reading a book I reviewed here on the blog. {You can read that review here.}

I have to really limit Jace’s intake of Gluten, so I try to buy as many Gluten-free products as I can find. One brand I hadn’t had the option to try yet is Udi’s.

Until now!

Udi’s recently sent me a box of yummy goodies to test out and review with Jace. Boy, oh boy, was Jace ever excited when he found out this review was just for him. Inside the box, we found Snickerdoodle Cookies, Brownie Bites, Chocolate Chia Muffin Tops, and Blueberry Oat Muffin Tops. I could see Jace’s mouth watering as he looked over everything inside.

Because I don’t want Jace to feel like we’ve singled him out, I will often eat whatever he’s eating. {That way if he says something is gross, I’ll know if it really is.}

After he took a few bites of the Udi’s, he didn’t want to share. 🙂 It was so great to see him actually love something that I knew was good for him.

I did end up getting him to hand over a Snickerdoodle cookie. Oh my goodness. If I didn’t know they were gluten free, I never would have guessed it to be true. They tasted just like the Snickerdoodle cookies that Joan White used to make after school when we were kids. So so good. Soft, chewy, moist, and just delicious. Over the next week or so, he allowed me to sample other items too. Every item was delicious, and knowing they were gluten free – and that the muffin tops were full of 10 essential vitamins and minerals – made them even sweeter.

I found out that my husband’s store – as well as many other Ingles stores – carry Udi’s Gluten Free products. I’m so excited because now I can call him and ask him to grab a few items for Jace on his way home any time I need to. {By the way, their bread is amazing. It looks AND tastes just like “real” bread. I didn’t get any with this review, but after tasting the items in the review, I decided to try more of their items on my own.}

There are several facts about UDi’s Gluten Free Foods I want to share with you:

  • They are the #1 gluten free baked goods brand.
  • Their Gluten Free products are now in 150 Wal-Mart stores across the country.
    • Wal-Mart will carry 5 of Udi’s best-selling products in the bakery department: soft white bread, soft whole grain bread, plain bagels, chocolate chip cookies, and pizza crust.
    • To see if there is a Wal-Mart near you that carries Udi’s, check out their store locator:

I am super impressed with Udi’s gluten-free products, and so is my son, Jace. We will definitely continue to purchase Udi products for our household. I would also highly recommend Udi’s products to anyone that is gluten-free or is considering going that route. These products taste so good, you’ll actually wonder if they really are gluten free!
