Day 3: 30 Days of Giving Thanks

Day 3: Today, I am giving thanks for my husband.

30 Days of Giving ThanksGod blessed me with an amazing husband. Truly, the best in the world. When I met my husband, Ashley was 3 years old. I was very active in the College and Career’s class at my church, and I started dating a guy. Things didn’t work out with that guy, but because of him, I met his brother, who just so happened to be {unhappily} engaged to another girl. (How’s that for a story?!) Long story short, it wasn’t long before hubby ended the engagement, and we started dating shortly after that. I know, I know, it sounds like a rebound situation on both parts, but it really wasn’t. 6 months later, we were engaged, and another 4 months after that, we were married.

Gene is kind, loving, generous, PATIENT, (he has to be – just look who he is married to!), dedicated, hard-working, protective, and he loves the Lord with all his heart. What else could a girl ask for?

I am so blessed to have the man I call my husband. He is my whole world. I love you, honey, and I thank the Lord every day for bringing us together.

What are you thankful for today?

Happy Birthday, Honey!

Today, my husband turns 31. He was just a youngin’ when I married him almost 10 years ago. 🙂

{We don’t talk about the fact that I’m older than him.}

I am so thankful for my husband. He is such a wonderful husband and father. He works hard to support us, and he never complains when he does anything. My favorite thing about him is that he would rather spend any free time that he has with me and/or the kids. He doesn’t go running off with friends or spend hours away from home because he’s “spending time with the guys.” Nope. He’s at home, with us, showing us how much he loves us.

When I first met my husband about 11 years ago, he was engaged to another girl, and I was dating his brother. Funny how God just takes circumstances and puts us right where He wants us. I was also at the most depressed state I had ever been in. I weighed less than 90 pounds, and size 0 clothes hung off me. I was a single mom to my oldest daughter, and I knew my relationship with Gene’s brother was going nowhere. I was certain I would spend the rest of my life alone, and for some reason, I couldn’t handle it.

A few weeks later, Gene had broken up with his fiance, and we started dating. It didn’t take long before I knew he was the one. Everything about him was so different than what I had experienced in other relationships. He was gentle, kind, and so loving… both to me and to Ashley.

Over the next few months, our relationship became sweeter and sweeter. In May of 2002, he asked me to marry him. We were married that September. From the moment we said “I do,” he has given me his whole heart and has treated Ashley like his very own. No one would ever guess that he’s not Ashley’s real birth father, unless they already knew otherwise.

He loves me, he loves his kids equally, and he loves the Lord with his whole heart. I simply could not ask for a better man to share my life with.

To close, I just had to share this picture of Gene & Ashley. It’s one of my favorites, and I hope it brings a smile to your face.

Happy birthday, honey. I love you, and I’m so thankful God put you in my life.
