Introducing Cube Dog! {#CleverCubeDog Review}

I am always looking for apps for my iPhone and iPod Touch that will keep my kids entertained. Grocery store shopping is far more enjoyable when I can hand Lucy my iPhone and Parker my iPod touch and keep them preoccupied while I grab everything I need.

The kids have been asking me for months if we could get a dog. After all, everyone we know has a dog, and they don’t want to be left out. But, this mama can’t handle dogs. Give me dozens of kids, but not a dog.

So, imagine my delight – and my kids’ excitement – when I found out about Cube Dog, and brand new app available in iTunes.

What a fun app! Oh my gosh. My kids just love it!

Just the music alone is an indication of just how much fun this app is.

While I was in the process of downloading the Cube Dog app to my iPhone, my 6 year old, Jace, asked me what I was up to. I asked him if he wanted a dog, and his eyes got as big as saucers. “Really, Mom? I can have a dog?!”

“Well, kind of, honey. I’m putting a dog on my iPhone right now. How fun is that?”

“Really? We can keep him? What will he look like? Will he be my dog, or do I have to share?”

We had a few minutes to wait for it to download, so the questions continued. Then, my 7 year old, Zander, came up and asked what we were up to, so we started answering the questions all over again.

Once we had the Cube Dog app installed, there was no holding back. The boys grabbed my iPhone and immediately started making their very own Cube Dog.

The boys had a blast picking out the “parts” to their dog. Just take a look at how cute Ace turned out:

He’s so adorable. And he’s so much fun to play with! You can pet him, make him fetch, and he will even call your phone. Don’t believe me? Check it out:

Ok, so he doesn’t really call you. It’s just a pretend dog, remember? But it did make us all smile. In fact, this app has had us laughing and smiling since we downloaded it.

The boys love having their own “pet” to play with, and my girls can’t wait to get their turn at creating their own special friend. I have a feeling this will quickly become the most-used app on my phone.

There are several things I love about this app:

  1. It’s super easy to use. My kids were able to figure it out all by themselves, and I didn’t have to spend 20 minutes explaining to them how the app works. Just download it and start playing!
  2. It’s Free. Of course, you can pay to upgrade, but even if you don’t, you can still have a ton of fun with this app.
  3. It’s a ton of fun for everyone. Really – I enjoy it as much as my kids do!
  4. You can customize more than one dog. This way, my boys can have a dog, my girls can have a dog, and even I can have my very own dog. And each dog can be customized to fit our individual personalities. Mine can be pink, because I love pink!

The animations are all high quality 3D, and you can rotate, zoom, and have all sorts of fun. There’s even a button in the right hand corner of the screen that accesses your camera. You can then have your dog doing all sorts of things in the real world.(My dog, Daisy, took a little nap on top of my mouse. I was hoping I could snap a picture of it, but for some reason, I couldn’t get it to come through. You’ll just have to take my word that it was really cute!) Update: My 7 year old showed me what I was doing wrong, and HE showed me how to get the picture to work while using the “real world” background. It’s actually very easy, and I can’t believe I couldn’t figure it out!

Cube Dog is compatible with the iPhone as well as the iPod Touch with camera. I’m hoping they make it compatible with the old iPod Touch, because I’d love to get it working on my dinosaur that Parker loves to play with. (That way I could actually use my phone myself!)

I just love the Cube Dog 3D Toy App. The kids have had a blast with it, and so have I!

I saw a post over on the Cube Dog Facebook Page, and I think it’s the perfect way to wrap up this post:

Pet rocks became popular in the 1970s because they were easy to care for. Cube Dogs are are also easy to care for, but they’re infinitely more fun than pet rocks!
