The Brother P-Touch Challenge – My Final Thoughts

In August, I first posted about the Brother P-Touch Challenge. I was sent a P-Touch labeling system, and was told to make over a room in my house. In October, I showed you the results of my Basement Makeover. I absolutely loved the basement’s new look, and it was SO nice to have a clearly labeled space to work in while the kids played down there.

At the end of January, my husband and I moved into a new home. This home has a much larger basement, and WAY more space for everyone to move around. We kept a living room/play area in the basement for the kids. This confines their mess to one area, and I don’t have to worry about toys all over the house. Plus, we have lots of room for lots of bins and boxes, each clearly labeled with the appropriate child’s name for their toys.

{I also want to interject: I LOVED having the P-Touch while packing for the move! I labeled every box, and I didn’t have to worry about any of the labels falling off any of the boxes during the move. Everything arrived safe and sound, and each box was put in the proper room.}

I am super impressed with how these labels have held up since I did the original Basement Makeover last fall. I’ve not had a single label fall off, and if you look closely at the labels, they still look as good as they did the day I put them on. Here, take a look for yourself:

See? It’s still perfect! I haven’t had a single problem with any of the labels.

Now I want to take a few minutes and show you my new basement and workspace:

My new workspace - everything is perfectly labeled, neat, and organized!

I love, love, love coming down here to work!

My "best" friend - and favorite labeler!

The kids still have a play area {with a few boxes of toys}. The rest of the tubs and boxes are in the storage area behind the tv. Keeps everything so organized!

Here's the storage area with lots more labeled tubs and boxes.

I will say it again and again: I LOVE my P-Touch label machine! I haven’t had a single problem with any of the labels, and my P-Touch labeler works as well as it did the first time I used it.

This is my new go-to gift for “the person who has everything.” If they don’t have a P-Touch labeler, they NEED to have one. I love mine, and I use it all the time – for anything and everything.

{Another side note: We added labels to the boys’ matching scooters they got for Christmas so they could tell them apart. Even with them constantly playing on them outside, the labels are still perfectly in tact and look fantastic.}

A HUGE thank you to Mom Central and Brother for allowing me the opportunity to participate in this campaign. I have really enjoyed it.

What do you think of my new workspace?

Brother P-Touch Challenge: The Results – A Basement Makeover

Back in August, I participated in the Brother P-Touch Challenge. In that post, I mentioned that I would be making over my basement and sharing the results with you.

It’s been 2 months since I put up that post, and I am so, so excited to share the results with you.

I figured the best way to really show you my new and improved basement was with a video. That being said, here it is:

Ok, ok. I know. I like the world great. Sorry. But it really is great. The kids and I all love our basement now. I don’t have toys all over my house, the kids have somewhere to call their own, where they can watch movies, play video games, play board games, or just goof off. If it’s raining outside, the first place they ask to go is in the basement. It is so nice to actually have that option now.

I also thought it would be fun to show you my favorite areas in pictures. Ready?

Here we go!

Ta da! Doesn’t it look awesome? {Maybe I should say great? :)} I really think it does, and I love how it turned out. The picture above shows a glimpse of the chairs where the kids can watch movies, the bookcase, and my exercise area.

This picture shows our new “multimedia” area. We’ve got the X-boxes, the wii, the DVD player, and all the DVDs in one easy to access place. I’m pretty sure this is the kids’ favorite part of the room.

Here’s my favorite area. It’s my craft area. I finally have one place to store all my crafting stuff. I can sit in that chair and sew, make hair bows, wipes cases, jewelry, or anything I want. Everything is clearly labeled, easy to find, easy to access, and the best part…. easy to clean up. If my kids would let me, I could honestly spend all day right there.

Here’s my second favorite area in the basement. I’ve got my photography backdrop all set up and ready to use anytime I want to. Now I have no more excuses. My light is hidden directly behind the backdrop and is easy to pull out, pop the shadowbox on there, and plug it in. I love, love, love that it’s so easy to take portraits of the kids now. I haven’t had an area like this in a home since we lived in Ohio, and I have really missed it.

This Challenge has been awesome. I love the new room that I have thanks to Mom Central and Brother.  And I have to say, the Brother P-touch PT-1290 is so easy to use. Even my kids can do it. {I made the mistake of leaving the P-touch where Jace could reach it, and he went through and labeled everything… including a few of my dishes. It’s funny now, and I’m finally able to see that it’s great that he could spell the words correctly and label them. If nothing else, it was a learning experience for both of us. But, I do love the fact that it’s so easy to use even a child could do it.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my results of the Brother P-Touch Challenge. I know I’ve had a blast doing this, and so have my kids. If you have a room in your house that you want to organize, I would highly recommend the Brother P-touch PT-1290. The labels stay put, it’s easy to find exactly what I need, and my basement looks fantastic.

Zippies – Pals that Hang Around {Review}

Having 6 kids, I am always looking for a fun way to label my kids’ stuff so they don’t lose it. Zippies have become our favorite way to do just that – and more!

For this review, the kids and I received a set of Series One Zippies pals. Immediately after they arrived, the kids each grabbed their favorites, wrote their name and my cell phone number on the back, and started attaching them to their favorite items. Zander and Jace each tagged their book bags and hung one from their belt loops. Parker put one on his belt loop and another on his shoe. Lucy wore one like a bracelet for days. Even my teenager got in on the fun and she attached one to her book bag.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve seen these Zippies all over the house, tagging all sorts of items. From baby dolls to drinking glasses, even hanging on towel racks so that everyone knows whose towel is hung where. My kids absolutely love Zippies.

There was one drawback: When the kids took the Zippies to school, the other kids were totally jealous and tried stealing the Zippies. Not cool. Luckily, we had labeled the back of them in permanent marker, so my kids were able to prove to the teachers that they did belong to them. We were then asked not to bring the Zippies back to school because everybody wanted them. I sent in a note to both of the boys’ teachers and gave them the website where parents can purchase Zippies. Maybe if enough kids start buying their own, then we can enjoy tagging the kids’ school stuff again. I would think teachers and other parents would appreciate having childrens’ items properly labeled so that things don’t get lost or stolen.

I am definitely looking forward to using Zippies this summer. We are always at the park, and we always have bottles of water with us. With Zippies, we can quickly and easily tag the bottles of water, and know which bottles are ours. This will prevent germs from spreading, and each kid will always know which bottle of water belongs to them.

I absolutely love Zippies, and I am so glad we were introduced to them! The kids loved the first set so much, that we can’t wait to see what Zippies they come out with next. I’m hoping for some more girly ones – daisies, hearts, bling… Other animals would be fun, too. Monkeys, giraffes, hippos… you get the drill.

For more information on Zippies, check out their website: You can also find Zippies on youtube, facebook and twitter.

I would highly recommend Zippies to any parent, and I know for a fact that my kids have been recommending them and showing them off to all of their friends.
