Attack of the Stomach-Bug Monster

I apologize for the lack of posting around here the past few days. The stomach bug hit our family… hard.

It started last Saturday. I got a phone call from my MIL. The boys had spent the night on Friday night, and Zander woke up at 6 am sick to his stomach. He spent the entire day in bed with a bucket beside him. When I finally got him home, I put him straight to bed, and he slept the rest of the afternoon, evening, and all night long. He woke up Sunday feeling a million times better, but I just knew someone else was going to get it.

I spent the next few days acting like Mr. Monk and trying to keep the germs at bay with Lysol, Peroxide, and Bleach.

I really thought it worked, too! No one got sick Sunday or Monday, so I thought we were in the clear.

Tuesday night, Gage and Parker both got it.

Again, it lasted about as long as Zander’s, and they were both feeling better by Wednesday afternoon. I opted not to go to church, just because I figured we were still carrying the virus, and I didn’t want to risk giving it to anyone else.

SO glad we didn’t go Wednesday night, because we were far from done.

At 11pm Thursday night, Jace came in my room and got sick all over the floor. 10 minutes later, Lucy did the exact same thing. Another 20 minutes later, it was my turn. {I didn’t get it all over the floor, though.} :) All night long, Jace, Lucy, and I would take turns being sick. About 1am, Ashley joined in the fun. Then Parker started again around 3am, and Gage at 4. I spent the entire night taking care of the kids…  and I was as sick as they were.

That morning, hubby got up at 6 am for work and HE ended up with it. He went into work anyway, but by 10am, he couldn’t take it anymore. He came home and confined himself to the couch.

We spent all day yesterday lying around the house, and we’re still not back to 100% today. I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck. The kids slept all day yesterday and still slept in until 10 o’clock this morning. As I type this, Lucy, Jace, and Parker are back to sleep again.

This is one stomach flu that I would never like to repeat again. I’ve had stomach bugs go through the family – but it usually attacks one person at a time. {And usually one right after the other.} This is the first time that 7 of us have been down for the count at one time. It has been horrible.

Has this nasty virus hit your house? If not – stay far away from us. If so, did it hit everyone at once, or was it a one-at-a-time deal?

Preparing for a Wedding… and Other Ramblings

What a week this has been – and it’s only Tuesday!

Acutally, hubby has been off work for the past 7 days. His timing was perfect, too, because I have been laid up in bed for the past 5 days. I’m just so glad it worked out that hubby ended up being home and off work when I was down for the count.

{For the record – a broken tooth and a sinus infection do not mix well. Tooth pain is horrible to begin with, but when you add the pressure of a sinus infection, it’s absolutely awful. I haven’t been able to do anything but cry for days.}

I’m finally on the mend, though, and am starting to feel a little more human again. Thank heavens. This has been awful.

Now, I’ve got just a few days to prepare for a wedding. My Mother in Law is getting remarried on Saturday, and I’ve got to make tons of bows. I’m praying I can get it all done in time. The wedding is a fall theme, and I’m hoping the idea I have for the bows turns out as nicely as I have them pictured in my head. I’ll be sure to share pictures with you once they’re all finished.

I averted a crisis when I stopped at the florist yesterday. My Mother in Law is blind, and she told the florist that her dress is blue. So, she asked if the florist could mix in some blue flowers with the fall colors to help pull it all together. Well, her dress is not blue. It’s more of an aqua or seafoam green – definitely not blue. The blue flowers the florist was picking out would have clashed horribly with the dress. But, crisis averted, the right color flowers have been picked out, and hopefully it will all work well together. Since I’m the wedding photographer, I’ll be able to show you how everything turns out. :)

Ok – back to bow making. So much to do, so little time…

So, that’s how my week has been….. How’s yours?

Happy 3rd Birthday, Parker Peanut!

I know I say this with every birthday, but honestly, I cannot believe my Parker Peanut is 3 today.

He went from this…

To this…

Parker's 3!

And he fills my heart with joy every single moment.

Parker will forever be known as “Parker Peanut.” He was so tiny when he was born, and the first few months of his life were incredibly difficult. To look at him now, though, you’d never even know it. {You can read his birth story here.}

Parker is an absolute sweetheart. He loves like no one else I have ever seen. He lights up a room just by walking in it, and he can instantly have the entire room laughing out loud. He’s as smart as a whip, loves technology, and gives the best messy kisses a mommy could ever ask for.

This has been an incredibly big year for Parker. He is the second of 5 potty trained children to be 100% potty trained before they turned 3. He talks in full and complete sentences, loves problem solving, can name any color you point to, any shape you can point to, and is working hard on counting. {Although if you ask him, he insists he’s turning 7 today – not 3.}

Parker, I want you to know how much I love you. You are such an amazing little boy, and my life is better because you are in it. You make my heart smile every time I look at you. Remember that Jesus loves you even more than I do and that He will always take care of you. I am so glad that God has allowed me to be your mommy. I’m the luckiest mommy around.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Parker. I love you!

Did Ya Miss Me?

So, on Monday, I kind of just disappeared with little to no explanation why. Sorry about that. But, I wasn’t ready to share our news just yet. (And, no, Baby Gage has NOT made his appearance, and after the way my doctor appointment went on Monday, it looks like he won’t be coming for quite some time.)

Well, I’m finally ready to share our news.

On Monday, hubby, the kids, and I moved into a new house. It’s only a few minutes from where we lived before, which is great – since I’m 36+ weeks pregnant. The house that we are renting is fully furnished, so slowly but surely we will be moving things over here. It’s going to take a lot longer than it takes a normal family to move, but at this point, I think slowly but surely is the way to go.  I have to interject that I am so thankful to my grandparents for everything they have done for us. They helped us get down here, and have been amazing. If we hadn’t kept having kids after we moved down here, we could have stayed in that house forever. But, our family just outgrew the space, and we had to find something that could fit all our stuff.

Our new house isn’t huge, but it is perfect for us. It’s got a full basement, 2 bedrooms, a huge loft that’s been converted into a bedroom, and 2 bathrooms. It’s a cabin-style home, and it’s so cozy. We’re surrounded by woods, and only have a few neighbors. There’s a deck off each level, so I plan to start spending every day outside once the weather gets nice and stays that way. The main floor deck and the basement deck are both covered, so we can even enjoy them when it’s raining.

We don’t get cell phone service at the house, so the first few days were pure craziness. They installed our phone line, but they did it wrong, so it was Tuesday night before we had any kind of communication with the outside world. I was promised internet service on Monday, but they kept calling to postpone. On Wednesday, I was told it would be Friday evening before anyone could come out. Luckily, I got a phone call this morning from their technician, telling me that he had a cancellation. When he asked if I wanted him to come today, it made my whole day. So, I’m finally back in touch. I won’t tell you how many emails I have to go through for being offline most of the week, but it may take days to go through it all! :)

Here’s what our new house looks like:
