We’re Under Quarantine!

quarantineLast night, we went to my MIL’s house for dinner, just like we do every Wednesday night. She was serving sloppy joes for dinner, so I made all the boys take their shirts off to eat. When I lifted Parker’s shirt over his head, I noticed some funky blister-like spots under his arm. There was another one on the forearm, and one more on his back. I wasn’t 100% sure what they were, but I was guessing they were chickenpox.

I dropped the kids off at church, since hubby was on his way there anyway, and I took Parker to the emergency room.

The triage nurse said they were chickenpox and put us in a room away from all the other rooms. The chatter inside the ER started up: Exam Room 3 has chickenpox, keep all patients away from there.

An hour went by, and still no sign of anyone. No doctors. No nurses. Not a single soul. I was pretty sure they had forgotten all about us.

Almost another hour went by, and finally the doctor came in. She took one look and confirmed that they were chickenpox.

Fabulous. Exactly what I need with 6 kids in the house – one that’s still under 3 months old.

The doctor recommended that we keep all of the kids home for at least the next 2 weeks. Everyone is SO bummed, because our VBS starts on Saturday. No jumping in a bouncy house for any of my kids. 🙁

I’m hoping that since all of my kids (except Gage) have had the Chickenpox vaccine, that if they do get it, it will be a very mild case. And, hopefully, since Gage is still exclusively breastfeeding, he either won’t get it, or will get a very mild case.

Can you just imagine six kids with the chickenpox? Lord, help me.

We’re stuck in the house for the next 2 weeks. If another one ends up with chickenpox, then we have to increase it by another 2 weeks after the first sign of spots. So, technically, we could spend the entire summer stuck in the house. Not cool.

Pray for my sanity, please. It’s only day one, and we have got a loooooooong way to go.
