A Mini Minion, and A Whole Bunch of Talent #CreativeKids

My oldest son, Zander, loves to create. 99% of the time, you can find him “doing” something creative. He’s either drawing, writing a story, (comics are his favorite), reading, or – his newest fetish – creating with playdoh.

This afternoon, he brought me a “mini” minion that he had made, and I’m going to use it to take the opportunity and brag on my boy a little.

We had a fun little photo shoot with his little creation today. Here are the results:

I absolutely love it. He just blows me away with the things he comes up with.

And since I’m already bragging on him, here are a few more pictures of things he has made for me lately:

Yep, I’m pretty proud. He is so incredibly talented, and I love that he loves to create so much. If my Daddy were still alive, I know the two of them would get along quite well. My Daddy had an amazing ability too, and it definitely skipped a generation. Luckily, Zander got some of it and he is running with it!

Do you have a creative child? If you’ve posted some things your child has done, I’d love if you’d share your link with me in the comments. It’s good for us to brag on our kids. 🙂

Put the Boys in Cub Scouts

Last night, we had the official “parents meeting” with our local Cub Scout Troop. That means the boys are really, truly Cub Scouts now. They could not be more excited. Even Parker is excited, and he’s still almost 4 years away from being part of a pack.

As I was getting ready to go to last night’s meeting, Parker came up to my room and said, “Mom, I’m a parent. I need to go to the meeting tonight for Cub Scouts.” Bless his heart – he wanted to go so badly that hubby and I took him along with us. All went just fine until he started playing with my phone, found the Cube Dog app, and started making my phone meow like a cat. (I still have no idea how he did that. 1. My phone was on silent, and 2. it’s a Cube DOG app.) The other parents and leaders thought it was hysterical, though, so no one seemed to mind the interruption too much. At least I don’t think they did.

Truth be told, I’m really excited about the boys joining Scouts too. I think that Cub Scouts will be a very good thing for both of them. Zander needs the social interaction Cub Scouts offers, and Jace needs the disciplined atmosphere. Sounds like a win-win to me! And, since the whole family gets to get involved, I think it will be really good for all the kids. I just need to start praying now that hubby’s work schedule doesn’t conflict too badly with Cub Scouts. Taking 6 kids to Cub Scouts 4 – 5 times a month by myself sounds exhausting.

I don’t have much Cub Scout experience, but that will be changing very soon now that I’ll have 2 boys in the program. Luckily, my Uncle is the ultimate Boy Scout, still active with a troop here in our area. You can bet I’ll be leaning on him for advice and direction through the boys’ time in Scouts. So glad I have him in my life! 🙂

Do you have any experience with Cub Scouts? What did your boys learn? Would you do it again?

Happy Birthday, Zander!

I can’t believe that Zander is 8 years old today!

This has been quite a year for Zander. He went back to public school after 2 years of homeschooling, and he did great! He is super shy, but he completely opened up to his teacher, and she was the best teacher in the world for him. He excelled in everything he did.

He is artistic, loves to read, and absolutely brilliant. I couldn’t be more proud of him!

Happy Birthday, Zander. I love you so much, and I am so proud of you in everything that you do. You make every day better. I’m so lucky to be your mom!

I’m making him a very special Bumblebee cake for his birthday – at his request. We shall see how it turns out! Wish me luck….

Edited to add: Zander’s cake went MUCH better than the 4th of July disaster. Here’s how it turned out:

Earthquake Drill

earthquake drillToday at Zander’s school, they had an earthquake drill. When Zander got home, he was telling me all about this earthquake drill and what happened. Here’s exactly what he said to me:

“They sounded off the alarm, and we all got in our proper places. But then they didn’t shake the school. What is the point of having an earthquake drill if they’re not going to shake the school?!”

When I asked him why he thought they would shake the school for a drill, He replied, “Well, some of the kids said that the school has a big machine that makes it shake just for earthquake drills.”

It took me a good 10 minutes to stop giggling after that conversation!
