After church on Sunday night, I got a phone call from my good friend Ms. Sabrina. She called to tell me that a girl in our church, and one of Ashley’s closest friends, was being rushed to the Emergency Room. Half the church was also on their way there to be with her.
As the night went on, I found out more and more details through updates by Sabrina and another friend. Cheyenne had been in the kitchen when her brother dropped a deep fryer containing hot grease. The grease hit Cheyenne on one hand, one thigh, and the top of one foot. One of our friends commented that her hand just looked like cellophane it was burned so badly.
Cheyenne is very, very special to me and to my family. She is in my Wednesday night class and I just love her like crazy. She always has a smile and a hug for me. As if being a tween isn’t enough of a challenge, Cheyenne is also watching her mother battle lung cancer. This girl has been through so much, and she is so strong. I admire her so much.
The last update was that they had her hand cleaned up and they were getting ready to start on her leg. She is in a LOT of pain, and the 3 shots of morphine she’s had aren’t helping. The
mountain idiot doctor said that if they get the wounds all cleaned up nicely, they’ll send her home. She’ll then have to go down to Atlanta’s burn center tomorrow. Why they wouldn’t just keep her, I will never know.
Please pray also for Cheyenne’s brother, Chris, the one that dropped the deep fryer. He is dealing with so much guilt, and with everything they’re facing with their mom too, we’re all just worried about him.
Another member of the family that needs prayer is Cheyenne’s older sister, Tracy. With their mom being ill, Tracy has taken on many extra responsibilities, and she also has her own family to care for. I don’t know how she does it all. I just know she’s pretty darn amazing.
I will update you all as I find out more. Please pray for pain relief, healing, and good doctors down at the burn center for Cheyenne, and also for the rest of her family. It would really mean a lot.
Update: They let Cheyenne go home early this morning with pain medicine. She will need to see a doctor today to be reassessed and then they will decide if she needs to go down to the burn center or not. Apparently, it’s not as bad as they thought it was. Prayers DO work. Keep them coming for this family!
